COMPUTER PROBLEM: my harddrive is losing space at a scary rate

every few minutes it seems like i lose 10-20 mb of space. id free it up by deleting precious mp3s and it would go from 1.4gb to 300mb in a matter of an hour or two.

i have viruses that i cant clean (apparently), and ive been told my only recourse is to reformat and reinstall everything.

anyone else have this happen? is there anything else i can do?

Update your virus definitions..... clean the virus... if you have to go through all your directories on your HD and try to find the garbage that it was making. I suggest defragging your disk after you get the virus removed also.

It's a good idea to watch what you download and who uses your computer, I've learned that lesson a couple times over.

Hahaha :sting: Pistol got ya on that one you Mac humper Mamerro. There's nasty viruses out there for Mac's too, but I'm sure the people that code viruses are concerned with infecting large numbers of computers, which means PCs.... I wouldn't put it past someone to make a virus that could infect mac's and pc's.... I'm sure it's entirely possible.

Yeah I don't think repairing the files works alot of times. You may have to replace the files. If windows has the files write protected, go download the new files (search on the net for them), and switch them out in DOS where windows won't have them protected. That should work.

porn eh?

What happens if you reboot either in a safe mode or you turn those programs off that you suspect those exe. files are with.

Then see what happens.

You should go to google and search those exe files to see what comes up. If it's a virus there should be plenty of stuff online. Then just delete it. You might have to do a safe mode restart if those files are currently being used if Norton doesen't delete them for you.
