Raiders Sign Rice to 6-Year, $30 Million Extension

 

 

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The Oakland Raiders (news) signed Jerry Rice (news) to a six-year $30 million contract extension Tuesday, a deal that could keep the All Pro wide receiver with the club until he is 46.

 

The Raiders also announced they have signed veteran receiver Tim Brown (news) to a nearly identical six-year contract extension structured to help the AFC champions get under the league's $75 million salary cap limit.

 

"It's a good deal for Jerry," Rice's agent Jim Steiner told the San Francisco Chronicle. "It works for him and it works for the Raiders."

 

One of most durable players in NFL history, Rice led the Raiders with 92 catches for 1,211 yards last season and became the first 40-year-old to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl.

 

In 18 seasons Rice has compiled 1,456 career catches for 21,597 yards and 202 touchdowns.

 

 

Brown, a nine-time Pro Bowler, has spent his entire 15-year career in Oakland catching 1,018 catches for 14,167 yards.
