A rare and striking example of the German classic era is this 1929 Mercedes-Benz Nurburg Convertible owned by Mark and Paula Bedsole of Rochester, Mich. Coachwork was by Papler.

The Mercedes-Benz 170 line was an entry into the lower-price market during the Depression '30s, although in appearance it is anything but entry-level. This roadster has a body by Zindelfinge.

This 2000 Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car could very well be a preview of a future "Grand Mercedes" model. Mercedes officials emphasized that this is a feasible and realistic study of a luxury sedan for the narrow market segment above the S-Class. It pays tribute to the famous automotive engineer Wilhelm Maybach (1846-1929), whose work with Gottlieb Daimler was instrumental in the development of the first Daimler gasoline engine.

Fine '53 Mercedes-Benz 300 S Cabriolet at the Meadow Brook Concoujrs d'Elegance belongs to Gene and Marlene Epstein of Newtown, Pa. This beautiful sports-luxury car was built for the rich and famous. With a price tag of about $12,500, It was the top-of-the-line Mercedes, several times the price of the standard American luxury car. Movie stars like Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Judy Garland and Bing Crosby bought 300S models, as did the Shah of Iran, the Aga Khan and the King of Jordan. Total production was only 500 cars
