American me is a classic, plus its somewhat true. I think its interesting to watch chicano gangster flicks because its a culture not really talked about outside of its element. Italian and black flicks get played out. Theres some good B grade chicanogangster flix, old ones like boulevard nights and duke of earl, or the new ones made by brown rappers.

Update to the thread with recent films.

Empire: It's good, but quite disposable. John Leguizamo does a hell of a job, very impressive acting. It has a pretty nice "real" feel to it, exception being Fat Joe's magic flying shotgun. Puerto Rico at the end was definitely a nice plus. Predictable as hell, but definitely entertaining.

Gangs of New York: BADASS. Martin Scorcese is definitely a master director, Daniel Day Lewis kicks everyone's ass, Leo DiCaprio does a nice job of his usual role of looking pissed off (kid is a good actor, but never gets roles where he can show it off), and the gore is kept at a tasteful level (unlike Ridley Scott) without failing to look painful as fuck. Shit makes contemporary thugs look like a bunch of grade schoolers... if that movie is an accurate representation of how it was 150 years ago, shit was fucking TOUGH. Word of caution: At times you will feel like you're watching Gladiator, set 2000 years in the future.

As you were. Beer,

an ausie film that might have cut it over there(not sure to be honest) is "two hands" its not a gangster film as such but has a good portrayal of one element of austrailian organised crime...

another one was "chopper" this guy was a ruthless son of a bitch that has been glorified for some damm reason....

an old classic is "stone" this is a movie about bikers which is a heavy element in aus organised crime..

it all depends what you mean by "gangster".... there are alot of movies out there with orginised crime content...

classic urban gangsta movies

Boyz N The Hood (trendsetter)

Menace II Society

Colors

American Me

Blood In Blood Out

New Jack City

New Jersey Drive

Jason's Lyric

Above The Rim

Juice

Pretty much most of the gangsta movies made by rappers and rap labels suck. All that No Limit and Cash Money and FatJoe/Mack10 shit is low-quality garbage with horrible acting.
