haha, yep, we're geeks, but i love electronic music as much as guitar music...and actually i hate most electronic music as much as i hate most guitar music...(my general rule of thumb is that most music from every genre sucks, but the ones that trancend all the bullshit make it to the realm of "good music". i'm actually starting to mix live instumentation with electonic music. everyone that i've heard that does this really sucks at it (like Plan B--it's like crappy down tempo with acoustic guitar) except Portishead could do it very well.....shit i'm just rambling right now....too much coffee...anyway, music is music: some of it's good, most of it's bad, but it doesn't matter what media was used to make it

yo i think i found the amp i need....

The RM50 accommodates any combination of classic or modern amps, simply by plugging in your choice of tube pre-amp modules. Designed for the club professional who is looking for an all-tube amp with multiple tones. The RM50 gives you 50W of power using Ruby 6L6 tubes, a 12" Celestion G12 Century speaker, and 2 modular channels for plugging in Randall pre-amps. Controls include master volume, master density and presence controls, and front panel mix control. Connections include a tube-buffered parallel effects loop, series effects loop, slave out, rear master input (for volume pedal), and rear bias test points.

i'm all about old fender tube amps, like the twin. pure tone bliss.

yeah.

i had a couple smaller fender tube amps (a princeton and a havard reverb) but i eventually had to part with em due to monetary issues. god i wish i still had em...

i want a marshall right now , but the budget cant afford one.

sorry dude...

you're right. i was thinking of the shitty solid state amps that fender is/was making with the marque "princeton" and "harvard". the old school amps from the fifties and sixties are indeed tube.

the shitty amps i was thinking about:

edit* the only shitty picture of an eighties harvard was broken, so fuck it.

actually i was going to dismiss the randall shit as well, but all the randalls that i've heard were solid state. thats the first randall that i've seen that was tubed, so i don't know if it would be that bad. it would be worth checking out.

meh...

i don't know if i would trust randall. there is just something about a modular amp that doesn't set well with me. an amp that is trying to sound like a bunch of other good amps doesn't make sense. i just don't think it would sound good. buy an amp that has made a name for itself sounding like itself (does that even make sense?) like old fender twins or soldano or mesaboogie. well mesaboogie is just a vintage fender rip off, but they do a better job ripping fender off than fender does. great sounding amps. loud as fuck too. all of these amps are plentifull on the used market and prolly sound worlds better than that randall.

oh fuck yeah.

these things are fucking rad.

don't need a lot of power to make a lot of noise.

of course there are many more i haven't touched on like ashdown or hughs and kettner or blah blah blah...

those pics are making my mouth water....

anyway, i don't think i'd ever buy a randall. just curious as to how a tubed one would sound. don't care much for mesa boogie's distortion. i'll take a fender anyday before a boogie, also mesa boogie makes terrible cabinets. when i worked at a guitar store i plugged a boogie head into a boogie cab, and got this standard run of the mill tone, but when i plugged it into a JCM900 300 watt 4x12, goddamn! 100% improvement. thats my only avice if you get a boogie head: don't get the cab!

the ones that ive played around with were really nice. nice bottom end , very clear and pronounced. i dunno i have a strong bias for that company right now. although i want a marshall jcm 900 and 300 watt slant cab , but hey im a dreamer arent i?

i personally don't like the boogies for just that, too much low end, however i must admit the tone is extremely warm, its beautiful at that, and sounds nice when you're playing alone. however, when playing with a live band, you need a guitar sound that mixes well with the "sonic range" of the other instruments, and having that heavy low end distortion is not so good. fenders and older marshalls have that perfect tonal range.
