Weapon X
Evrything from AD&D, to RiFtS, to Heroes Unlimited, to a whole slew of fun stuff! My favourites were often when one guy was the GM, and the most he'd do would be crude drawings of a map or so, and it would sorta be a 'freestyle' simulation of an rpg. if you don't know, then you don't know; don't hate. KaBar
LOL LOL LOL LOL A graphic example of how each person's separate life experience changes and directs his/her cultural understanding and knowledge. As soon as I saw the letters "RPGs" I immediately thought of the only meaning for those three letters I've ever heard, and that is the Rocket Propelled Grenades of the Soviet Union/ Russia--the RPG-2, RPG-7, RPG-13 and whatever the new ones might be. The RPG-2 and -7 were military staples of the Vietnam War, and along with the B-40 rocket, were responsible for the deaths of many American soldiers. People of my generation, especially guys, and especially military veterans or anti-war protestors are very familiar with the term "RPG", but for us, it will always recall a shoulder-fired, reloadable rocket launcher with ten or fifteen different rocket loads which could be used against tanks, bunkers, people, buildings, etc. These launchers are frequently seen in pictures about wars, civil wars, rebellions and revolutions in Asia, Africa, the "Middle East", Afghanistan and Chechnya. And for you guys, apparently it recalls "role-playing games" and nothing else. I would at least expect the Communists, socialists and anarchists on here to recognize the name of the most affordable anti-tank weapon in the world. Personally, I prefer the RPG very much over the American-made "LAAW" rocket (also written "LAW" rocket---Light Anti-Armor Weapon) because the RPG is a re-useable system. It has a launcher and the ammunition (rockets) are loaded down the front of the tube. The hammer is cocked, much like a pistol, and when fired, the hammer strikes a primer, igniting the rocket thrust charge. It doesn't go "whoosh", it goes "Bang!" and the rocket is launched towards the target. It is a fire-and-forget weapon, much preferable from the viewpoint of ground troops than a wire-guided system like the TOW or Dragon M-47, which are both wire-guided. All these weapons are descendants of the original German Panzerfaust rocket, carried by the Nazis in WWII. The American "bazooka" is also a permutation of the Panzerfaust. The most modern Russian anti-tank rocket is a copy of the American LAAW, and is "disposable" just like the LAAW is. http://www.g2mil.com/RPG.htm http://www.lcompanyranger.com/rpgpage.htm
