FTP problem..... experienced only ---> others can skip this thread

Recommended Posts

I know some of you people consider me one of the resident computer guys. I too run into problems that I can't solve. Cutting to the chase:

I have an FTP account. This FTP account will let me log into it. But it will not list directory contents.... rendering it pretty useless. I do not have "passive" mode enabled, so that eliminates that as a fix for the problem....

Here are some outputs from....

The dos "ftp" command:

-------------------------------

Password:

230- Linux blah blah balhalbhabl

230 User ****** logged in.

ftp> dir

200 PORT command successful.

-------------------------------

FileZilla FTP client (win32):

--------------------------------

Response: 230 User ****** logged in.

Status: Connected

Status Retrieving directory listing...

Command: PWD

Response: 257 "/www/****.*****.net" is current directory.

Command: PORT 192,168,12,61,0,11

Response: 200 PORT command successful.

Command: Type A

Response: 200 Type set to A.

Command: LIST

Command: ABOR

Error: Could not retrieve directory listing

Error: Timeout detected!

-------------------------------

:stumped:

i dunno. you can log in ok, so i don't see why you're getting timeouts retrieving the directory listing. are you on a dial-up? if so have you disconnected and reconnected to see if it was just a bad connection?

cable modem... it's not something that just happened.... I haven't been able to get in for like a month now. My dad says he had installed a firewall on the server that makes it so the computer doesn't give out too much information about itself.... as a form of protection. He can ftp from a remote location like his house though. I'm thinkin it's some kind of network setting on my side, or the firewall may be misconfigured in some way. I'm leanin more towards the problem being with my computer.
