Help with splicing audio.

Hell, I'm not even sure if splicing is the right term, but if you clicked on this thread chances you are you know my answer to my question.

 

I have a huge mp3 file that is 57 minutes long, and I would like to be able to splice it into separate, smaller files of, say, 5-10 minutes each.

 

Can anyone point me to a free program that would enable me to do this? The only music-related programs I have on my computer right now are Winamp, MusicMatch Jukebox, and anything else that comes pre-installed on a Windows machine.

With MusicMatch Jukebox, you might be able to convert that mp3 to a .WAV file. Go to downloads.com, get a shareware or freeware sound editor like Goldwave or CoolEdit, use it to slice that WAV into small parts, and then export them again as mp3's. You might need 2 programs... one to do the mp3-WAV-mp3 conversion, one to slice it apart. Beer,

I dled it, but I don't see how I can edit a file I already have on my computer. Loop Recorder seems to be mainly a recording program, with an editing function only to support what you just recorded.

 

If I'm wrong, please let me know ... I'm still trying to figure out how to do this.
