So after reading and reading about freights i agree with Cracked ass. That whole thing with the geography and stuff was a good illustration for a euro to realise. But now a new idea came to mind, tell me if you agree.

America is a huge country, freights, given that you work hard, can be used to circulate your work around the whole country. Still what i find that is the most appealing thing about freights is that it makes graffiti possible for non city kids. It seems logical to me that freights are so hit up there because freight are everywhere, from city to suburb and metropolis to holeinthemap village. It seems that the freight scene's biggest thing is that it made graffiti non-urban.

i personally know people from the suburbs who got into graff from seeing freights rolling through there small towns plastered with graffiti, myself i think that nothing beats a clean train rolling by with graff on it but unfortunatly here in the u.s you have a better chance of seeing the tooth fairy because of the buff, in 99% of cases shit gets buffed without even leaving the spot it was painted, so whats the next best thing, yes north american freights. its basically a subway that covers not a city, not a state, not even a country but a fuckin continent, so i can do a fr8 in new york and someone in vancouver canada can catch it, also shit gets buffed but to a minumum. ive been catching cars lately dated 95 and 96 caught a porn from 93 recently and some cbs la stuff from 94. so to me freights are alot better than you europeans make it out to be.

To avoid misunderstanding, i dont diss freights at all. To me graffiti is graffiti and doing it is whats important, one way or another i dont give a damn. I live here and paint what i got, i'm just underlining a thought that seemed interesting to me.

What i'm saying is that the freight scene doesnt seem like an alternative to passenger/subway trains...its a whole different thing and has a totally different culture that is not necessarily urban based.

To sum it up, even if trains did roll i wouldnt expect freights stop being painted. You would just have less writers.

I dont leave there so i cant really say, but if i had some stats on my hands by experience i'm sure that i'd find out that the number of writers in the states had been dramatically increased since people started painting freights.

Can anyone confirm this?

The same goes here really the last tube I saw run (not including myself) was at Xmas, by Fusion and Juice, so thats like 8 months ago.But I only really travel on two lines the Jubilee(which is virtually always clean) and the Central.London has the biggest subway system in the world with like 12 differnet lines and like 40 yards and around 3 underground yards seeing how big it is you would expect more to be running but it simply doesn`t unless of course your lucky or you do a back jump. A question for you guys who use Subways in America when was the last time you saw something run??

p.s i`m not at all on the dissing side, maybe if we had a freight system like yours it might be the same who knows..

TOX.O2

Has anyone noticed the amount of stuff tox does?Every northern circle central and district has been bombed on the outside with a staining mop........personally i dont think hes very good but he is killing everything.Btp must be on his case....Freights are cool if you are in america,Europeans dont understand the concept, because it seems easy to paint them.Every freight yard is differant.

I have never considred myself to be a european hahahaha

Freights : Subways

Apples : Oranges

They're both trains but that is about the extent of the similarities. Freights are nice because everyone can paint them. Everyone doesn't have a train running through their city you know. Yeah. I <3 graffiti.

of course we miss the point we're writers. graffiti=stupid. anyways i don't care one bit about the freights vs. cleans argument, but i wanted to address one misconception that alot of europeans seem to have which is that freights don't go anywhere that people will see them, ie the city. freight do spend alot of time in rural areas, but they also run through big cities and park next to major freeways and almost anywhere else you can imagine. the don't just roll from one secluded field to another. and just because somebody paints freight doesn't mean they paint them in a field (although they very well may). some yards are in the middle of nowhere and some are in the middle of the ghetto. so to address tesseract's point, freights do bring graffiti out of the urban areas and into the rest of america but they play a big part in urban graffiti too.

...i'm going to comment on the point of this thread because no on else did...yes tesseract...freights has allowed graffiti to spread to non urban areas and has created a different philosophy of graffiti here...lots of kids never saw bombs except fro maybe on tv, but they caught trians rolling with pieces and were still exposed to graff...now it's not uncommon to drive threw some bumpkin ass town and see a few tags...yeah there are tons more writers, but they'll all grow up soon and give up like everyone else and only true heads will remain..

Okay...just to add my two cents.....yes, the freight movement has brought "urban graffiti" to places it's never been before. However, I think the majority of people who seriously paint freights are still from large cities, and are painting with the assumption that their trains will be seen in other large cities. I think it just so happens that a lot of times the best yards and layups are in rural or industrial areas. That's just my take on it though. I think it's funny how so many Europeans still can't seem to comprehend why freights are popular here. Then again...sometimes I wish there weren't so many writers here who did. (ie: the critical mass issue)

If UK freights ran more through passenger train stations I would consider painting some chromes. But consider I have only ever seen 1 freight yard I can't be arsed. I might do some freight just to post on this forum....

or then again maybe not, i'm gonna smoke a zoot instead.

Believe it or not people do paint freights in the UK, and in the rest of mainland Europe too. Its just that they're seen as second rate to painting subways and passenger trains, so not many people bother.

And your point about the freight scene helping to make 'graffiti' bigger than its ever been is probably true. I think that the internet might have something to do with that as well. The proliferation of glossy graffiti magazines from all over the world has probably got a little to do with it too.

Will it last. Who knows? I think it probaly will.

You're twenty years behind the fucking curve, still jocking the 80's in NYC, and in twenty years you'll be jocking freights after we're on something else. Just shut the fuck up and follow the leader. [/b]

thats the skinny of it mate!

to be honest if we had a freight network like the States I'd probably hit it too, Sunday afternoon in the sun sounds cool to me.. just like doing a wall and watching it fuck off round the country

once the euro scene evolves to where the US is they will enjoy freights just like we do now.

and again, shut the fuck up.
