Obsolete
cable is the shiznit , but once youve had cable , you wont be able to go back to dial up , it will be the most agonizing , pointless thing , and you will want to kill your computer

colour
yes it all depends on alot of factors but here is some general info. cable is theoretically faster however dsl has proven to provide a more stable transfer rate. now you have to understand that cable and dsl offer pretty much the same real world speeds but cable tends to be more inconsistent. also ive seen really good dsl prices. although i am a cable modem whore and i stand by my choice. Dirty_habiT
Check it out.... When you have a cable modem.... you're connected on a central "station" in your neighborhood. Now that station only has a limited amount of bandwidth. So if your redneck neighbor is streaming chicken porn off his computer, then it's gonna slow your download down. Cable is inexpensive compared to standard dsl's. If no one in your neighborhood is on their cable modem, then your's can go very very fast. The "modems" themselves (actually a DOCSIS router) have a cap on them.... meaning that your ISP doesn't want you to dl or ul faster than a given rate. There are less than legal ways of undoing this.... in fact you can actually have the dl and ul rate of the station... 2600 magazine Spring 2002. Dsl's have a set dl and ul rate. Now you can spend more money and get the one that's as fast as average cable modem speeds... but it's gonna cost alot more than a cable modem will. Although you benefit from having static speeds... ie. your farm animal data base hosting neighbor isn't going to fuck up your game of Counter Strike. That's all I know, nobody tells me anything... I'm just a mushroom, feed me shit and keep me in the dark. TAg!!! You're it!
