Satanic Warmaster - wouldn't recommend most of their discography but this split is pretty good:

Cemetary - early '90s death metal

Catacomb - some really great + unique early '90s French death metal

Horrified - guitarist from Acid Witch

Nile - just dug this album out again recently, their best imo:

Diablero - local baltimore punkish grind, worth checking out, the song's short

Shai Hulud doesn't neatly fit in the metal or hardcore thread, so fuck it.

New album coming out in feb 13.

short teaser

These guys have been one of my favorite acts since i first heard them around 2001. Never disappointed live, and though it takes them 5 or 6 years between albums and their line-up always changes they maintain an awesome formula and energy.

Limbonic Art - majestic black metal done right

Grifteskymfning - more majestic black metal done right...but differently

- I greatly prefer this release

- the guitar tone is arguably better but the vocals are terrible to my ears, especially in comparison

Behexen - finally got a chance to listen to the new Behexen a few times, it's not bad but we're not even in the same realm as the first two albums anymore. More power to them with this style I guess, there's definitely still traces of their classic sound present but for all intents and purposes that which made the first two full lengths great is either gone or has changed.

Incantation - one of my favorite Incantation albums supposedly being repressed this week

Ravensblood - pretty generic I must admit but their logo is awesome

Spear of Longinus - this album also getting repressed soon, can't get into any of their other releases

Arizmenda - a lot of people I talk to tend to only want to talk shit about the black twilight bands and that's fine, there's plenty there to talk shit about. But even with all the hype, rip-offs, mexican supremacy and outright general stupidity, some of the bands put out very high quality releases

Seeing the mighty Absu tonight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hli3LPGKc18, gonna be great, I have yet to see them on a headlining tour of their own. Ilsa, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkj4cRvsO4w, and Extermination Angel, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6eol6H5xLk, are opening. Not bad openers but bands like that are a dime a dozen and they aren't doing anything special in my opinion, though I am a big fan of Disease Called Man (pre-extermination angel).

Also, some of the good black:

Cornigr -

Mortuus -

Lil' bump action.

Vlad Tepes - possibly their best song, from the Belketre split

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPl2Q8z3-0U

Pestilentia - some seriously great Belarusian black metal, long songs, captivating riffs

Ouroboros - one of the best canadian war metal bands, this song is like a toned down version of Lust

https://soundcloud.com/iron-bonehead-productions/ouroboros (couldn't find a youtube link)

Absu was ridiculous, they played a little over 90 minutes shredding through all of the early albums and then playing the entire second half of Tara. Nonsense. Also someone else besides Aumstarsbcf must like good metal on this site, no?
