  • This is a work i did a while ago.It begins with a thought to bring 2D shapes in a 3D state,like folding a piece of paper.
I used the general outline of a tag like a shape to be folded, mostly by locking the empty space beetween the letters with their extentions(arrows etc).
Then i wanted to bring those "sculptures" to 2D again using photography.
    Anyways,enough with blah blah shit.
The thing is that i'd like your thoughts on this, its kinda important to me.

In actuality when you are drawind a 2d shape, it is supposed to be on a 2d plane. but the paper that is used is 3d, no matter how thin it is. The same thing for the conversion of 3d to 2d.

anyway rock on i did some sculpting of tags a while ago. i did simple throws and straight letters out of styrofoam. and i painted them. turned out pretty good.

You are right,it was not clear on my previous note.I concider the paper as a flat surcafe with 2 dimensions. From your point of view everything is 3dimensional ,its true, our world exists and moves in 3dimensions.However physics and art differ in some cases.Science must always refer to actuality, art has the freedom and ability to refer to more hypothetical situations.

Dont take my words so literaly,i know you understand what i meant.

Did you really had to quote all 7 images?

PEACE

Dude, those are fresh....i like the idea you're working with.

I think Marcel Duchamp did something along those lines...but i cant remember what...maybe im imagining it. (not meant as any sort of criticism, just in case you wanted to see how someone else worked w/ a similar idea)

either way, i like that stuff alot. pretty damn fresh.

Thanks nipples,

Duchamp and his generation were to concerned on the Dimensions thing.I think duchamp had a theory that has our 3dimensional world as a shadow of a 4dimensional world etc...

He painted "The large glass" having these things in mind...aswell as many others.

BOOGIE,In this project i worked with 55 tags,i felt that posting 5 of them is pretty much representative(sp?).Inside the box you can see all 55 of them.

But there is more to it.

Boxes work in almost the same way as those tags. They are big flat pieces of paper that fold in to a 3d geometrical shape.

bringing them back to 2d with Photos would work better if the shots were more dramatic try using a Strong light sorce and switching up the angles. . .

cool idea

Piz, when i decided to photograph those pieces i realised that i didnt really wanted to interfeer(sp???)to the aesthitical part by using some technique.I felt that i just wanted to create an archive more than a "piece of art",especially since i concider this a kind of expirement. So i thought that i needed the simpliest way possible. The most objective way to photograph things in my opinion is to use a polaroid or an instant camera or a scanner.

I scanned them and as you can see i used the images as they came out(exept some brightness-contrast that they needed in order to differ the object from the backround).

You could be right though,i deal with things like this in a very cold way.

i'd like to see the sculptures and photographs without the tags...

don't get me wrong, the handstyles are dope...

i'm just personally not that crazy about seeing "graffiti" in art as anything other than real graffiti.

KAST, i get it.I dont disagree.Graff is Graff!

But those tags are a part of what i did here.

If i remove the tags it will turn out like some abstract form shit.I dont care much for abstract things in general.

If my handstyle sucked then the "sculptures" would suck ass to.

I dont claim that this is graffiti but its related to it.

I dont understand what would you see here if tags were absent(sp?)...Nice shapes?Nice photos?

well, i didn't mean some abstract shit.

i just thought you good do the same thing with a different subject matter instead of tags. maybe with drawings or something like that...

I do a lot of stuff and work with many things.Whatever idea i have i materialize it.And every idea leads me to another.

I work and think like that,i dont see whats wrong with that.

If you feel that what you see is garbage,i respect 100%

But if you're telling me that "real" graffiti is "offended" by this,i disagree.

i think you misunderstand me...

i don't think it's garbage...quite the opposite. i'm always interested in seeing and hearing different ideas outside the norm.

and i don't even care whether "real" graffiti is offended or not.

i was just trying to give you my perspective/criticisms...i'd have done it a little differently, but i didn't do it...you did, it's your project.

keep doing what your doing...i meant to encourage, not discourage.

Me Thinks...

you should make a Quicktime 3D image of the

models.

2D to 3D to VIRTUAL 3D!!

"i'm just personally not that crazy about seeing "graffiti" in art as anything other than real graffiti." KAST

I disagree 100%

As long as it's not a comercial production (sprite ad).

Taking the specific traits out of 'graff'

and sticking them into a new medium, in this case sculpture,

creates interesting paralles,

therefore I recognise the rawest shape of something I subconsciously know.

ie.. The underline in the 2nd pic is familiar to me,

and I have to relate it back to my own 'graffiti' experiences.

Zesto, thanks for the good words,Bullseye on this.

That 3d image stuff is interesting, not on this particular piece thought...

---QUESTION:

Do you have in mind some software that creates 3D panoramas?(i can explain it better if have to).

And most importantly, how can i get it cracked?

I had a demo of "3d panobox"(or something like that)but it seemed impossible to find the crack....

The underline in the 2nd pic is familiar to me,

and I have to relate it back to my own 'graffiti' experiences.

I dont get it***?
