If he had mastered lettering from the ground up, I'd be willing to respect his case, as for now it's just novelty. Guest professor poopatronic Posted May 23, 2002 Share Posted May 23, 2002 god i hate you guys. the fact that you're calling this guy a "toy" and saying he needs to learn letters is really quite ridiculous. i wonder if UFO even knows what the word toy means. this is exactly what i think graffiti should be- whatever the fuck you want it to be. if salvadore dali decided to do all his work on building instead of on canvas would you call him a toy? why should he learn letters? what do letters have to do with painting on other people's shit? sure most of us paint letters, but is there some kind of rule that we all have to? i don't think dude is trying to be a "writer" he's just some guy who has fun doing goofy UFO characters everywhere. i always wish that i had never gotten into "graffiti" and just naturally took my artwork to the public. i think i would be doing much more inspired and original work if that was the case. Anyone can like what they want, I don't have a problem with that, I just don't happen to feel that it's "the best." I respect anybody who goes out there and puts up work, and the dynamics of this converstation seem to imply that people like what he's doing, but that doesn't make it good artistically. Anyone can do whatever they want. This guy wants to paint UFO's on public property, its cool with me. It's still ugly and alot of people on this thread are sweating him for little to no reason. Hes not good and he's not up that much. Duh-rye-one thinks he's one of the top 10 most up in Brooklyn. Thats a straight insult to people who really do put in alot of work and are up alot. I put UFO in the same catagory as De la Vega, artsy fartsy vandalism. By the way for Doc bronson who mentioned other people who do "iconography" such as Pork and Demon, to me, its all about letters. Thats just what I like, thats my opinion. Demon and Pork do letters. And the pigs the Pork draws look real cool, they are skilt. Word life goodbye.
