This photo I found in an daily paper over here in Europe. Under the photo its mentioned that old NYC subwaycars are being dumped in the Atlantic Ocean outside Delaware. 27 cars are being dumped at 25 meters depth to create an artificail reef...

Cant they find anything better to do with them???

There must be some kind of underwater marking paint.

Guest cracked ass

My local news did a quick story on it...they threw in some comment like "there's standing room only down there, and the fish don't know how to paint graffiti on the trains" I was like WTF?!

they should have donated them to the Phun Phactory or something...at least people could still paint them...i dont like the idea of dumping them into the ocean...i would love one for my back yard

I saw that on the news the other night too it sucks but what can you do. Its kind of nice to know that us americans can not only destroy our land with garbage now we're stepping up to the challange of doing it in the ocean now too.

I'm suprised the MTA didnt strip and sell the nameplates off of them...thats the kind of shit railfans go nuts for, the could have made a nice chunk of money.

it also made the cover of the times.

saw action footage on the news on cnn local stations in both america and canada.

also. theres an article about the original proposition in an issue of metropolis from about 1 or 2 years ago.

yeah sad.

but then theres lucky people who own their own cars.

apparently there was a problem with asbestos insulation in these old trains .. hence the reason they were left in the scrap yards for so long. i dont know if any of you have ever see fotos of the scrap yards with trains wrapped and sealed...well.. thats due to asbestos.. or at least thats what a worker told me.. maybe to scare me off. anyone confirm.?

i heard that was one of the reasons it took so long to ok this artifical reef idea.

i bet one of the VS guys who checks the site could give us insight.
