High Priest
Ive never really been involved with religion aside from the occasional trip to church for a funereal or a prayer for a loved one when they've fallen ill, but a few days ago I was out taking flix and was approached by a Krsna who gave me this small pamphlet titled "Beyond - Birth and Death." I was able to read through it today and a lot of the point's illustrated and focused on in this book were really on point and relevant to thoughts and beliefs id already previously had, but were or had been difficult to find use for or assimilate to my every day life. IM not planning on becoming involved in the religion, as I choose to abstain from thoughts and customs that involve worship of a supreme being, but over all the material was a really insightful read and I did find it much more belivable then other texts id read previously on other religions and there backgrounds. If any one has the chance to get a copy of this "book" i highly suggest you take a brief look throughout it, if not for interest in the religion then perhaps just to gain some new perspectives, view's etc. Any one else read up on this? suburbian bum
I had the hare krisna give me a book on vegitarian cooking. Very ineresting, although i did disagree with some of the points they made, i think they have some good beleifs. The hindu religion is my favorite, even though i disagree with points in all religions.
footsoldier
krishna is weird, some parts of it are good, but theres so much that i differ on as compared to people who i know who are krishna..i dont think i would ever settle for any religion that i can find a problem with... Mr. Mang
today some christian man tried to give me a pamphlet as i walked by. i just said "i'm atheist" and he didn't really know what to say. "well you need to be sav- eh oh forget it" today was the first time i've actually said that to someone. i told my mom i didnt' believe in god. she told me she raised me better than that. i said "ok mom" and shook them haters off. http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2000/04.13/photos/shake.250.jpg'> "i'm not letting go motherfuckaaarrrrrrr!!!" serum
hmm. i don't really know what to say. i guess i can start with hare krishna the religion vs hare krishna the philosophy. philosophically it helped me piece together my thoughts, gave me the chance to learn about another culture, learned how to meditate and i still to this day live by most of the ideas of hare krishna/hinduism. except for my problem with anger management. when i read some of their pamphlets the whole movement kind of hit home. i love their analogies, thoughts on karma, and respect for other religions. i don't really dig the sexism but its also the oldest religion. however the money making religious side really turned me off. anytime money is involved things become scewed. in india the devotees are supported by the community but in america there is no safety net to keep it afloat. so it turns from a great philosophy into a business. i've met some really great people through it but i also met so many morons. i had been going to a temple by my house for about 4 years, when travelling monks would come through not knowing me, they would approach me like a sales man and try to sell me on it. they all sounded like robots, selling me on the same points, asking me if i had read such in such book. the same old lines and i knew the books better than them so eventually they became annoying. i have travelled and visited other temples and asked to let me stay for a night and eat dinner but they were rather rude. "hey vagrant this isn't a hotel or a restaurant its a place of worship." when i told them about who i knew, where i was from, they changed their tune and allowed me to stay. in terms of good books that i've read the best being the A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada its a pretty long read but its a great epic of krishna, and arjuna. talks about everything love, war, respect for life, karma, duty to god, parents, wife, etc. shrimad bhagavatam is very similar to it but also very good. if you like smaller reads, try the upanishads or any of the smaller books which are just the "cliff notes" in laymens terms of the better books. theres a book on krishna's life which is really great if you like those type of stories. fighting demons, creating chaos, sexing up the women. i'd say give it a chance, i don't know where you live but i'm sure theres an ISKON temple somewhere nearby. grab a book, meet a few people, eat some great food, and the art is beautiful. no one is going to brainwash you or try to get you to sign up, the worst is some guy asking you to buy a book. since thats the only income the temple gets buy a book or incense, and hopefully you get as much out of it as i did. Guest Stoney Blaze
Good book bro. The cool thing about Vedic religions is that they interlace the spiritual with science and mathematics. Be careful with the references on past lives when reading Vedic literature though. It doesn’t mean you lived as another person 100 years ago or whatever. And it doesn’t mean that you will come back to life after you die. It' means we live different lives throughout our lifetime. I.e., I was once a baby. I was once a teenager. I was a thug but now I'm chill. The negative karmic influx from being a thug is what made me want to chill.(change) Everytime we discover something new that directly changes our outlook on life and how we carry ourselves, we are reincarnated or reborn by a necessary learning process. Transitioning from one opinion to another can be as easy as changing your diet or as devastating as learning that life isn’t all fun and games. This is called the life and death cycle, which we must continue to struggle through until we gain Krsna consciousness during our life or die never knowing it. Let's call this consciousness: wisdom. pukey1
i think that humans need to believe in something. theire beleifs tend to be either science or religion. scientific theories state that the antimatter will eventually cancel out all matter destroying all life as we know it. believing in this would be extremely depressing. so i believe in religion... but that's just me. -pukeY

YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU BELIEVE IN! which is why i dislike parents raising their kids to believe such things because by the time they are like 19, they have it burned in their mind that those things are FACT and nothing else. TEE_rase_war
"karma is justice without satisfaction" somthing like that...who knows. Religion is a self propelled. I do not believe in organizations keeping track of your thoughts etc. What I do believe you should have is someone that will keep you accountable. Of coarse I ask questions everyday of my life. Why am I here? who put me here? and I guess the best explanation comes when you have lived. and your actions directly effect the answer that you will recieve.
