I remember playing games like Wings of Fury, Rampage, and those Summer Olympic Games type stuff. Never played LSL although I wanted to. I also used to draw with the comp. Remember one dot or one line at a time. 12,34 type stuff.

FAT16, hard drives less than 500 mb, 5 1/4 inch hard disks, 5 1/4 inch floppies, monochrome, ISA, full size mainboards, ide/floppy controllers not integrated into mainboards, single/double speed cdroms, i1086, the original pentium 60, which had an overheating problem and intel had to do a recall on all of them and sent new processors through the mail to everyone who sent theirs back in.....tandy computers, oldschool 'laptops' which looked more like briefcases, simms....i had a friend who restored an old 286, not much you could do with it other than run really old dos programs....it was just a cool thing to have around....

i remember I even started getting into making aol progs. around aol5 i think or whatever, i made a program called "MaKrO's Chat Sounder" or something like that. what it did was let you say whatever you wanted into the chat room and it would make a sound using the {S command but it would do it in white text so on the screen...it just has your message and a sound would come up but no trace of it would be anywhere. i thought that was fucking awesome. hahah but i lost that to a virus or something i dont know.

i havent been on aol for years...with good reason obviously haha. but back in the day...i think it was totalyl awesome.

i was also just remembering all the old games i used to play.

games like:

commander keen (dope)

duke nukem (not the 3d one.)

scorched earth (used to play that for hours)

ah shit there were others but those were the main ones i used to play.

i used to love downloading simple games that took up like 1.2mb and were so full of fun. that was dope. all those dos games. haha.

doom was fucking great back then i agree. i used to try making levels for that game so much but never actually finished any. i did, however, make a small .wad that put charaters from Altered Beast into doom and that was fucking fun as hell, but then my computer got a virus (because piracy often comes with its fair share of problems) and i had to restore my computer and i lost that file. aggrivated me to shit.

Holy shit TT. You just gave me a flash back of me playing this game non stop in 5th grade.

I also remember Carmen San Diego games on my old Apple.

In relation to the AOL progs, Super Mad Cow was the fucking best. Scroll fucntions, make ascii art in chat rooms, send wav files.. you name it. Shit was fun.

Doom is a fucking classic.

As for Qbasic, it WAS all about Gorillas. I always kicked ass in that game. Somehow I always got the right angle and velocity. I played this game all the time when I was in computer programming and AP Computer Science. Come to think of it I was a cool nerd in high school.

p.s.

RAMPAGE!!!!

great stories.. i get a kick outta this..

So I got the best computer at the time, when AOL 1.0 was out... in '93

Packard Bell 90MHz - 16 Megs Ram - 1 gig H.D.!!!

14.4 modem which was fast as hell at the time.

almost $2,000.00 including 14" monitor, god damn thats right.

It was all about chat rooms, shit what else was there??!! And like someone else said above me it was a miracle just instantly talking to a stranger on the other end of the states. Someone from Australia broke into our conversation once and it fucking blew our minds. Anyway it was all about WizAzz List Bot. You would go into a chat room and run the bot and every screen name in the room was saved on a huge mass email list, I would mass email tens of thousands of people before AOL would TOS me and I'd call em up telling them I got a Trojan Virus and they'd let me back on and I would do it all over again. FUN FUN FUN.
