parkingmeter
transit is important for all big city writers riding, painting, insides, scratches, staining; gettin up any way possible. here in chicago, history has been almost completely erased from the windows of trains and busses. with the removal, comes the lack of a history to be passed through simply riding transit. you can't see whose up or who was up years ago. Therefore, a new wave of writers come onto the scene and write names of those who came before them, even worse, names of those who have died before them. New writers might find it hard to know what names are o.k. to write, but there is a way to learn about this folk art, the way all folk art is passed on, through storytelling from the elders in the art. Writers who have been writing for years have the knowledge of their experience as well as the past through the elders of their time. This is how history is passed and this is how writing will have to move from one generation to the next. Please understand that the present is not the only time writing has existed and you are not the hottest shit on the block. Know who came before you, who helped make writing possible for today and especially those who are still contributing to the movement. Respect for the past goes a long way in learning skills and becoming the masters of tomorrow.
