Graffiti vs. Advertising

how can you put writing in the same group as advertising? it's like how the close-minded egotistical toys that try to go out and call this form of expression, "nothing but destruction and vandalizism", ignorantly perpetualize the general media's negative portrayal of aerosol culture.

writing is a public performance and an unpaid one at that. also, it is an individual expression and a personal statement that varies upon each and every writer. unless you're one of those toys who just goes with the flow of how the media portrays things and has no standpoint and gets your balls sweaty cus you think you're bad ass rebel.

the advertising that we all know and love to hate is a paid non-personal promotion of products, goods, and services by industry and business firms directed towards consumers and their target audiences with intentions of influencing their purchasing behavior. obviously two totally different ballparks.

now, writing could be considered a service in that you are putting free art out there for other writers, including yourself, that the general public may or may not enjoy. although, hence "free art", because writing of course IS a free expression, which in itself promotes freedom of expression. so in this case, it isn't that kind of service, because it isn't a product that's for sale. unless you sell out, or are a fake who tries to use this shit solely to get paid and get to a point where you feel legitimate and can consider yourself an "artist".
