Looks like I'm not gonna win so I'll leave it at this...

Yes, I agree that the are hypocrites by selling out, BUT they did help MANY major and minor cases while they were together (and still are). For example they raised awareness of Mumia Abu-Jamal, Leonard Peltier, the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, among others. At least they tried harder than ANY OTHER BAND out there. That, and the only way to do this is to become as big a band as they were. So, they had to sell out to get thier point across.

And yes, I prefer Zack in Inside Out more than RATM.

Well I have to head out to class, so I'll elaborate more later.

and don't forget their help on Save Tibet.

If you guys think that Zach and Rage could have somehow had the same impact on the political mindframe of this country's youth without the popularity they gained through their musical careers, I'd like for you to explain it to me.. with some examples. I think this was definately the best outlet for them, and by far, the most effective.

on a side note, Chris Cornell makes me sick, and Tom Morello is my favorite guitar player of all time. Their new conglameration should be interesting.

peaceout,

rage were so original for their time. tom morello brews some crazy shit on his guitar...

hes got a trademark sound and dope effects. As for zach, he's a poet, and his words have such a truthful, and relatable meaning. People say tupac shakur was a poet, but all though zach doesn't really express his lyrics like a poet...his words still had a greater meaning than tupacs words ever did (no offence).

how good was rage on renegades...the original had a lack of energy compared to the rage version...

rage just rip overall

thank you serpent, and vinyl junkie. corporations dont care if you use catchy choruses or anti capitalist revolution to sell their shit, as long as people are buying it, they are content. sure go ahead talk about whatever you want, anarchism sure! is that what the kids wanna hear these days, hows $19.95 sound?

raising awareness doesnt mean shit if your just using it as your gimmick. if all these big bands with political agendas put their efforts into undermining what they talk so much shit about, instead of pumping money into the "system" they're supposedly against, they wouldnt have to "sell out" because they would bring that shit to its knees.

and they also used it to buy big ass houses, way too many cars, etc... i can't remember what magazine it was in, or else i'd post it, but i read an interview with tom morello where the interviewer said aren't you doing what you say yer against? and tom said "yes, and when the revolution comes i'll get mine..." that's a quote. that is the kind of attitude that makes me hate ratm... he obviously doesn't take any thing they say seriously, it's just to sell records... and yes, you can make an impact without selling out, only they might have to actually... (oh no!) work! fuck 'em...

to all the people that say rage sold out , if you have a messege to get across , whats the best way to do it ? rage used everything they could get , and if it meant using a corporate record seller then they did it . And they got their messege across . They could have stayed true to the "cause" and stayed playing small gigs and not signed , But what they did got their messege across and they managed to touch people all over the world . For me rage were one of the few bands that actually cared about the music and what they were singing about , They put there money towards causes that they beleaved in and they did it while making some fuckin awsome music .

I'd also like to add that not only they sold out, but they sold others out... Now thousands of kids walk around with "free Tibet" or "Free Mumia" on there bag because it is something that Zach advocates. Not only did they musicly sell out. But they helped sell out the "revolution" they were trying so hard to be a part of... If you want to fight for freedom, justice and liberation thats great. But to do it because you care. Not because it is promoted by your idol. My 15 Cents.

your 15 cents isnt worth shit to me...they fucking donated lump sums of their earnings to causes they felt deserved them... wow they have nice cars or houses, who the fuck cares, they earned the fucking money...i dont see them supporting any corporate giants like nike, pepsi, or coca cola, ...if you had that kind of money would you want to live in squallar, i dont think so, and as a matter of fact i dont see them representing anything but themselves, they earned their fucking money, ... they dont support anything theyre against, so how are they hippocrites, they buy cars, or houses, if thats all you got, you need to shut the fuck up

they are HYPOCRITES because they preach an often marxist to anarcistic message, and they are capitalists? anarchism cannot mix with capitalism, nor can marxism. if i were to preach communism (which i do) and be making millions off the exploitation of the working class, from stock or whatever, i would be a hypocrite. rage against the machine has done this, they're making money from exploiting the human rights movement.

i do respect that they've given so much away, and have actually spread the word about a lot of positive stuff, stuff that really matters, i just think they went about it wrong.

You see thats the fucking point. Isnt it good kids are more educated by world topics. What do you want to make suffering around the world only known to underground people. Their goal was to get their message to the masses, they did it. Boo Hoo, dude, you care so much about shit being underground and that kids try to be activists for GOOD causes that will help us all, and you get mad cause its too "mainstream". Thats fucking retarded, these things make the mainstream better. Fuck you and your "i have to be underground to be cool" additude.

Oh yeah, THEY ARNT FUCKING CAPITOLISTS! Just cause lots of people like htem and bought their album doesnt mean tehy are capitolists. Just cause you have money doesnt mean you are evil. All their songs are against capitolism. Im sure they didnt really want all that money, they wanted to get a message out, and they did it, money was a byproduct.

Well actually it's not a "I have to be underground to be cool aditude" I'm simply pointing out that they try and fight under the wing of the socialist cause. With words of liberation they turned into catch phrases like "free mumia". They use "leftest" political views to whore records. I mean for christsake they preform on MTV yet they are anti-capitalist, give me a break. Once they get there CD's out of the VIRGIN MEGASTORE, I will have a bit of respect for them, but until then they are just another group of people who live richly of culture. So say what ever you want but I will not change my oppinion

don't be DAFT, you can't "sell others out", christ you sound like one of those hyper-angry, straightedge, vegan, punk, pseudo political activist, shaven-headed, army surplus wearing, A.L.F., badge-laden, I-only-listen-to-unsigned-punk-bands, flyer distributing, safety pin encrusted, Socialist Worker wannabe 12 year olds..............

So RATM didn't measure up to your high standards, I'd still wager they've brought more attention to various rights movements than you have......................

it's one thing to educate the masses about that shit, but it's another thing to slap the words free mumia on a poster to sell more records... just cuz the words are out there doesn't mean they're doing any good... i had a friend who thought "free mumia" was a band! free mumia, save tibet... these thing are all over the fucking place, but noone knows what they mean, and rage is not explaining it to anyone... i'm sorry... i hate the word sell out, but in ratm's case, i'm all for it...

no, not pepsi, or coke, but perhaps epic records, or fender and gibson guitars, and yes, nike... do you know how much a company will pay to have their product used in a movie, or in band photos and shit like that? i pay attention to the shit that i buy... i like to know who it's made by... if i can't find something i need that's made by a company that i don't consider evil, then i'll fucking make it myself... now they may not get payed for all the product placement they do, but they do it none the less... if they realy cared they would be aware of this fact... another thing, you can have records released on major labels that have a price restriction on them. this means that a store cannot charge more than what the record label says. and considering the popularity of ratm, then i'm sure epic wouldn't have a problem with a price cap, and if they do, then there are plenty of other labels that would gladly take them, and that deal. ratm chooses to sell their records for as much as they do... in the end it's all about making money, and thought that was something they were against...

Well, im not mentioning anything about making money because i don't have enough info to justify my opinion. But.....About gibson guitars/fender guitars/marshall amps he uses......

........Why not? If i were a rock star i'd buy the top quality of all my music gear. I wouldn't play some cheap piece of shit guitar just to avoid representing a huge corporation. Eff that.

And nike shoes......eh. Shoes are shoes. They cover your feet and protect them from poop.
