  1. The other thing of mention regarding the toxic assets aka mortgage backed securities aka cdo's, is that the reason the housing market tanked so hard was because it was fueled by this decade or two of house trader, house flipping bullshit. You saw it on tv with shows on E dedicated to flipping houses. People were taking loans out on 2nd 3rd and 4th homes because they thought they were good investments. And they thought they were good investments because other people were buying them up too. These new houses didn't serve any function except as glorified rocks that people thought were worth something. Shockingly you see the exact same thing with the skyrocketing price of gold. There were also giant rings of people, especially in florida, who would buy a house with one mortgage, then flip the house to someone for $200000 more, pay for it with another mortgage and split the "profit." they would keep doing this for a few years until they got bored, defaulted on some insane mortgage and get caught for being stupid. What's even more disturbing about all the cdo's was that they by and large were bonds bought by your average joe shmoe who trusted the market with their life savings. And one of the banks that was by and large putting these cdo's together was the uk bank rbc (if I'm getting that acronym correct) 80% of which is owned by the British taxpayers. So if joe shmoe sues rbc for forging documents somewhere in their 5000 page toxic asset and wins, guess who's paying joe? The British taxpayers.
  2. Not a free trade market you dunce cap. The cost of materials and time of all the things it takes to bring a horse to market, and the cost of materials and time to properly dispose of all waste thereafter. It would force companies like BP to invest heavily in cleaning technologies of oil spills, atmospheric carbon, etc. there needs to be a group of economists that set the prices of goods and services based on something more long term and lasting than trending consumerism.
  3. It's 2011 dude we don't need to be debating this. What the fed did during the first recession caused he great depression. We all know that. What they did this time around saved us from another depression. We all know this as well. The emloyees are different, the economic policies are different, everything is different. He fed didn't make debt, they bought an enormous amount of debt. i know you know this. It was the first and possibly last time we will ever see them do this. Thems the facts, but I'm not gonna waste my time trying to convince you otherwise
  4. Strava on iPhone took a shit today. If it happens again I think I'm buying a garmin.
  5. And I got a new wheel today. Back in business after two weeks of nada.
  6. Lol some1 im shocked you took your baby on that. Havent you heard of horses for courses? That unpaced road is crying for some dualsport action. And that rear tires lookin a little squared off.
  7. At least it's not sturgis. I went to check out a local hangout for racers and talked to some of the local guys. Ended up riding with a group of sport bikes. Pleased to say I didn't get dropped. Probably because Ive ridden those roads 5000 times more than them. Not bad for a bike the sport bike riders just smirked at.
  8. Plus the time machine they had to build. Probably why they could only afford to go to 2015. Worst time machine ever. But I think Nike, not the charity, is paying for the commercials. And nikes doubling your contribution. Could be almost $12,000,000 for parkensons.
  9. And I'm sorry. You work in a deli department? Surrounded by chopped up meat? You should've just walked up and said "Ive been thinking about you all day."
  10. I've never seen this show, but i saw that this thread was still going and thought i'd click on it for the first time. Are the East Bay rats a support club? Correct me if I'm wrong. They ride sport bikes too. I've only met a couple at Hayasa but they seem like good people.
  11. Some1, you know how many motorcyclists we have out here? There's seven of them on CL right now. All for 2-2500. I could care less about the crazy looking two stroke exhaust systems, but that swingarm is whaaa crazy. Is it seriously single sided??
  12. Im actually thinking about selling my bike, but not for $2k. More like $3.5k And look what i've still got And there's a lot of variables you gotta look at when buying a bike. I really wouldn't pull the trigger on a bike if all i had was $2k. Most bikes in decent condition start at 2k, but if you get it home and something's wrong with it, you want some extra money to fix it immediately. I know too many retards who think they can just ride a motorcycle around until they have the cash to fix it, and then bang, something goes wrong.. I was one of them and lost my first bike that way, a pristine 1984 GS750ES. That thing was awesome. It had Miami Vice written all over it. I'd wait until you have $3500-$4k to spend on a bike, repairs, and gear. And please get gear. It doesn't have to be expensive but you're gonna crash. Especially if you're new to your motorcycle AND new to riding. This is what a nice, armored, waterproof jacket looks like for $200: Alpinestars "Messenger" They're even coming out with a waxed canvas version so if you dig old school motorcycle jackets like Barbour makes, thats the one to get. I would also recommend riding a bicycle in traffic first. 30 minute commute mostly in gridlock sounds bikeable. Also you don't want an old bike as your commuter. If something goes wrong with it, what are you gonna do? Sometimes sourcing certain parts takes a long time. I commute 60 miles every day on a 30 year old bike, but I also have disposable cash to sink into this money pit whenever I want. For a commuter I wouldn't recommend anything older than 20 years for that reason, and at 20 years old theres still parts that may be hard to find—And thats not even discussing the cost of those parts. If you're 5' 9" and 145-150 like me, the PERFECT first bike is a Honda Hawk 650GT. It's a classic. It's minimal. It's a collector. Its a sport bike. It's tiny. You can get your knee down. Its got the narrowest profile I have ever seen on a bike making it really easy to split lanes for beginners. Its not that fast. Long service intervals. And it's cheap. And the biggest thing you want when it comes to doing touring is ergonomics. You can strap plenty of cargo to a tank and tail and take a weekend trip to wherever on any bike, but if you're leaned over the front of your bike your arms are gonna tire out. An upright position with risers are the way to go.
  13. Of all the things to punch shepard for you pick on his patriotism? You could punch any democrat for that.
  14. Joker Any word on the blackout? In still curious if it was food, oxygen, or water.
  15. Something tells me that mercedes isnt leased. It COULD be funny if some Senior Vice President of a successful multi-million dollar company did a rap video but this wasnt it. I think Daniel Tosh talking about his diversified stock portfolio and college diploma was funnier
  16. If you havent heard this story its pretty amusing: A couple in texas that live in a good part of town see a fucked up car with the keys in it. They call the cops, the cops come, they tell them they dont know what it is and they'll run a background check. THe car sits there for three days until they decide to go inside the car and see if theres anything in there that would say who it belongs to because they're worried about the owner. About an hour into them rummaging around the car the SAME cops show up and arrest them. Since the cops said they dont know anything about the car, arresting them for a bait car is entrapment and the suit should've dropped there. They tried giving the couple a plea bargain down to vanalism or something and tied two samaritans up in court because they need the arrest to prove that bait cars work. Here you can listen to the whole story here. Its entertaining stuff. http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/394/bait-and-switch?act=1
  17. Where are you from? Move to a place with bigger gap between the rich and poor, like the bay area, and you'll see plenty of riots. My version of a riot is this: You just wait english people. Bernard is coming for you.
  18. "You're gonna rust the hood?" "Hellz Yeah!" "Damnit." lulz
  19. That's fucking what im saying too yo. Why you gotta get all internetsy on me. But I'm asking how poor is poor in london. I get the feeling they get their poor people from like kenya and Jamaica, so are they american lower class poor spending wellfare checks on leasing spinners, or are they kenya poor, eating fried fish heads?
  20. I dont think i speak australian. Was that sarcasm? If it was then you'd be saying that all the people rioting are 16 year olds who dont go to school, dont have parents, and can't find work. Link? I do like the chap part, chappy. Look at us being a pair of chaps.
  21. Yeah Im in a pretty sweet cunt of a spot. A pretty sweet cunt of a spot indeed. But that's what Im saying. If you're working part time at 15/16/17, that's not a job you're relying on. You're still a dependent of your parents, so wouldnt it make more sense to look at the poverty rates of the parents? Why not factor in allowance then too? Are the poorest of the poor SO poor in London that they need to drop out of school and start working at 16?
  22. That said, I dont know anything about the riots in UK, mostly because I dont speak the language. For example: Now they say that this has everything to do with the riots, but here in America a youth is a minor, or anybody under 18, so I dont understand how they're using the term "youth." The "youth" around here don't look for work until they're out of college around 21, or if you're not going to college, you ideally finish highschool and start work at 18, maybe 16 or 17 if you drop out. I dont know when school gets out for English peoples, so they might as well be citing unemployment rates among toddlers, because I'd understand the significance just as much.
  23. Um not to rain on england's parade of stupidity, but the police over there arent using so much as a taser on anybody. No water hoses, no teargas, no rubber bullets, no tasers. Must be pretty hard to rob stores when the cops stand in lines at you. Chile has some balls. England's just silly.
