  1. My husband needs an external/remote flash he can use with a Nikon D200. He'll be using it for things like shooting inside a factory and also shooting people snowboarding at night. Snow covered mountainside at night. I know nothing about flashes so I'm kind of lost. You guys got any recommendations or info?
  2. A little. I went out to the desert one day and I forget where else--Hollywood? another day. I'm sitting on about 12 rolls of color film I need to develop--almost all benching shots!
  3. Salvation Mountain, Niland, CA: Vernon, CA:
  4. I've had issues with film winding before and lost a bunch of shots, so what I do now is when I first shut the camera door, I tighten the rewind crank--not super tight, just till there's tension. Then I wind the film for the first couple of start-up shots and I make sure the rewind crank is turning as I do so.
  5. Pinhole shot of a train moving (to the right): Yeah not much around here but trains.
  6. I stumbled onto a steam engine that was just pulling up to this station the same time I was: http://www.upsteam.com And my Christmas present this year: His name is Toki (for Toki Wartooth).
  7. Merry Christmas to some of my fave photographers! Hope you guys have a great holiday.
  8. Do you know the basics like ISO, shutter speed and aperture settings? Does your camera let you have control over some of those things? Really you just need to experiment with it and see what it can do. That's the nice thing about digital--just delete any shots that don't work.
  9. I have an Epson Perfection 4490 which I picked up used/refurbished online for $85 a few years back. My brother has a nicer Epson which he got new for $700 or so. I've never had a problem with mine--he complains about dust under the glass in his.
  10. Don't apologize it's what this thread is for. :) Love that madonna in the window shot.
  11. Great stuff on this page. My Black Slim Devil broke almost as soon as I got it--those things are fragile. Now I have to tape it closed. Holga converted to a pinhole:
  12. Almost everything looks better in B&W. I rarely pay more than $2 a roll of slide (35mm) film--but I only buy it expired.
  13. I love my XA--especially like to use it for redscale. The shutter is extremely quiet and the shutter button is really easy to depress--which some people don't like cuz you can accidentally fire it really easily. I also had a friend who didn't like her XA cuz of the focus lever. She actually gave hers to me but since I already had one, I passed it along to my brother who didn't. Both of these were taken with my XA recently:
  14. Really great to see you posting here porra. That pic of the concrete tunnel with the ceilings caved in is one of my fave I've seen by you. I can stare at it for a long time.
  15. Thanks that's a really good suggestion. I'd actually been doing some new creative stuff lately. I wish I could go on a trip but I'm often stuck without a vehicle. I went out yesterday with a camera I hadn't used in awhile, inspired to get some shots with it, but discovered after I'd left home the shutter was broken. I intended to go benching in the morning then head out to some non-train related places to shoot, but ended up shooting 5 rolls of film at my benching spot and never making it anywhere else. Part of my problem is I'm so obsessed with trains that I never shoot anything else even though I really want to!
  16. Great stuff--esp love the people walking on the street. Here's a shot from a Holga I convered to a pinhole, finally finished off this roll:
  17. I'm having one of those terrible weeks where I just don't feel inspired to do anything. (Except go benching, but I can't do that all the time.) This is normally one of those times when I'd start doing photography experiments like I've posted about in this thread. But I just don't have any ideas, or feel like doing anything--blergh. What do you do when you need some inspiration? Anyone else got the winter blahs? I was going to try putting some Instax mini film in my medium format SLR to see how it worked, but I got interrupted and haven't gotten back to it. Maybe I'll do that this afternoon.

  19. Do you mean you don't want your Flickr acct and the photo title appearing beneath it? The code Flickr generates looks like this: [ url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/whenigodeaf/6441625281/ ][ img ]http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7007/6441625281_409bd47065.jpg[ /img ][ /url ] [ url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/whenigodeaf/6441625281/ ]ERIE[ /url ] by [ url=http://www.flickr.com/people/whenigodeaf/ ]QsySue[ /url ], on Flickr Except without any spaces. To leave out the link to your account the title, remove everything after the first closing url tag: [ /url ] So it just looks like this: [ url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/whenigodeaf/6441625281/ ][ img ]http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7007/6441625281_409bd47065.jpg[ /img ][ /url ] If you don't want the image linking to your flickr at all, then remove the url tag from around the img tag, so it just looks like this: [ img ]http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7007/6441625281_409bd47065.jpg[ /img ] Except without any spaces. I had to put spaces in the tags so they'd show up on the board rather than embedding the image.
