  2. peanut the abstract is for a battle and says Lous, but thanks for your comments, good to come from someone like yourself, I know what you mean about people being distracted by colours, I rarely do abstract stuff so just tend to play around with the idea without any true understanding behind it, which annoys me, I need to kinda study up on abstracts

Cool man, again no hate intended, might have sounded like a jerk but I am not one! =D Stick with it, people tend to sideline abstract stuff because its "easy" or whatever but its the opposite, in some cases it takes more work!

@RISS - I could be down for an exchange, not right now though, I don't sketch often but when i do I put a lot of effort into it and that audioliver one I did filled me up for the time being, I'll hit you up a PM when things cool down!

    IMG_0146.jpg

tried a style that i played with before, well more an abstract says lous

Stay AWAY from that drippy shit, you're better than that. Its the same as saying "Please don't look at my letters, here is some fancy eye candy to distract you"

That crazy abstract you did would look a lot better if your T was actually a T, in fact, looking back on your post, apparently your stuff does NOT say "Lotus", but for whatever reason, my brain wants to THINK you are writing "Lotus", marks deducted for making me think too hard.

As an abstract enthusiast myself, please do not disregard fundamental letter structure, the better the abstract, means the better the fundamentals, which means, as long as your letters are on point, do whatever the fuck you please. You're getting there, not there quite yet... That drippy yellow stuff, throw it out the window, Your S and T in the other one need some loving.

I loathe how everyone in here loves on shit just because its coloured in nicely, do me a favour - everyone, step back and actually LOOK at something for more than 10 seconds. If this were a true sketch thread everything would be in black and white. (Coloring has a habit for decorating turds to look like diamonds)

    No hate, only my opinion.

  4. Dunno if these fit in here because there aren't any letters "hidden" in the negative space, but I was using the negativity to suggest shapes that aren't really there.

  5. No, that is all paint marker. Those are old pieces. I said these days I'm not using paint marker. Thats my bad, the detail shot and what I said are two completely different thoughts in one post

That big ass 4 foot by 7 foot purple and green thing I posted a couple weeks ago is all brush and acrylics

  6. Peanut, bra, dude, THOSE ARE SICK.

I've been doing a similar thing with my paintings lately . I use acrylic and spray paint.

    Thanks man,

Lately I've been trying to stay away from using any spray paint or paint markers, and instead accomplishing the same design elements with acrylics and a paintbrush. This makes fixing mistakes or drips or whatever much easier. Plus its cheaper too.

Here's a detail shot for you nice people

    dscn4056.jpg

  7. peanut, those are also sick. very islander to me.

Hahah thanks, people have said that about this style before, even calling it very "native", I guess its the integration of the thick-to-thin accented lines and shapes, but what do I know

  8. "These are all 4feet by 1foot, pretty long

None of them are fully complete, I started them all back in the end of '08, I just can't be bothered to finish them all off. I'd love to have them all on the same level as the red one. Oh well.

That being said, these are all an earlier generation of my letter scheming, if I were to do this idea again, they'd all look different.

    JAMS, TENSE, REKON, MAGIK

for myself and some other members of the 32 CREW.

Spray paint background, paint marker for the white and brown. Should note that white takes about 4 coats to fully become solid when painted over spray paint. Big pain in the ass.

    Enjoy."

  9. Digging the works! Especially the one with the chair. Anyways, this is my attempt at a canvas..

    DSCF6706.jpg

This shit is so dope. Its very easy to fuck something like this up - but you didnt at all. Very well done sir - DO MORE.

    *saved to my pictures folder

  10. I dont know what your trying to say here.. but the stuff around someone influences their style.. same thing with graffiti. The people who he paints with/looks up too will also influence the way his style progresses.

In my opinion, simples dont have anything to do with ones style. They just teach generic letter structure. You cant get style by just drawing 'keyboard' letters all the time. Either you try more wild shit and learn from errors, or in the case with Boom1969... your 'influenced' by other writers..

Getting influenced/inspired from someone else's work is one thing, that DEFINITELY helps push your style. All I'm saying is you can't try on styles the way you try on shoes at the store and expect to be successful. The most you can do is learn and apply those lessons to your own work.

Simple letters create the foundation for wild style - they don't define style - Great wild style relies on having great base letter structure, if you don't know how to make your "A" look solid AND steezy then you need to practice simples more.

Whatever, I don't mean to preach, do whatever floats your respective boats, the harder you work the better the results.

  11. I have patience bud, no worries there, i am still looking for a style i can get comfortable with. I still do simples but every so often i have to try new things to see if anything takes hold for me to ezpand on later. Think of it as me using it to guage my own progression, as little as three months ago i would not have been able to do this one, now i have so i know i am progressing albeit slow and steady. As i said i have tons more simps to do and still have to settle into a style i can evolve from. Since decy is one of my main sources of inspiration on here along with mek, tesk note and a few others , i think its a good starting point later in life and i hope he doesnt mind the poor attempt i have just laid out. Things will get better with time

Here's where I think you have a problem,

You can't look at graffiti and be like "I am practicing THIS style now", or "I haven't found a style that I'm comfortable with"....

style is not something you can learn from other people. The most you can do is look at other people's work and be like "Well shit, why does it look dope when HE does it, but shitty when I try to do it?" If you can ask yourself that question, and actually come up with the reason why, you are well on your way to becoming a great artist.

Style is an extension of your human being, its something that is rooted deeply into your brain, how you think, what you do, where you've been etc, all play MAJOR roles in defining a certain style specific to a certain someone.

For the same reasons why its recommended to stick to simples, you can't jump the gun and apply someone else's style to your own stuff, it just doesn't work that way, it will never look "complete" and never look "polished".

The most important thing to getting your work to a level that you are happy with, is doing the gawt'damn grunt work!! Putting in the man hours in your letter structure opens the doors in your brain and gets your gears working, because after a while you'll be like "Sweet, i just drew this fucking crisp simple A, now how do I funk it out???"

THATS when you start getting into "wild style" type shit, not because you think what someone else has done is dope and you want to try it out, but because by that point, you'll be like "It makes SENSE to put this extension here, it makes SENSE to put this arrow here", because being good at wild style graffiti means you need to have an amazing sense of composition, and you also have to train your brain to think in a non-linear fashion. (ie: completely backwards)

There is NO way you can bypass all the leg work required to become a great artist. All the big writer's out there devote their entire lives to graffiti and developing their styyyyyyyyyle.

Anyways thats just my 2 pennies, maybe i'm alone on this... and from what you've said I gather you're not afraid of doing the work, I just want you to develop YOUR style, not someone elses

  14. fucking a!

was gonna post some of my canvas work on here but after seeing whats been fronted...think i mite wait till i got my skills up abit..

nah man post it all up! the more the merrier! I like to see this thread being all active and shit

  15. Yea, I dunno, I'm a fan of fluid acrylics only because with the stuff I do, its nice to be able to bang out long one-time strokes with the paint brush, and with a little air brush medium, its one step to take the colours I mix, and turn them into airbrush paint for the detailin'

All depends on what you wants to be doin!

  16. I usually go for the "Golden Fluid Acrylics" because they are a bit more liquid which means they dry flat, but they are also rich in pigment, perfect for those times where you need a thin layer of concentrated acrylic. Handles like a dream...

The more you spend on paint, the better it is...

    golden-fluid-pic.jpg

I usually lay down two or three coats of this stuff to get a banging result, you can't skip around doing the grunt work

  17. Ya no doubt, and the only important thing to be concerned about when it comes to style is just doing whatever comes naturally and going hard with it. It's like that age old saying, if you travel far and long enough you'll eventually meet yourself - same goes for style and art and shit. Its all fair game unless you're biting! hahaha

Anyways thanks for the friendly words yous guys

  18. and peanut butter and i like those colors kinda reminds me of roids

    Thanks,

Its a touchy subject for me when it comes to Roids' style, he's got international status and a unique style, but he certainly did not invent it... nor does he really "own" it

Anyways, the painting I just posted is just a natural progression of my style, here's a flick of a digital piece i made back in 2004-2005:

    Reward_Yourself_by_fasterthanlight.jpg

As you can see I was rocking roids-like elements in the before-times,

Here's the first large-scale galaxy space type of thing I did, in 2006:

    callAnAmbulance_by_fasterthanlight.jpg

Now, if you take those two pieces, and add in a little bit of this more recent stuff:

    Antu_by_fasterthanlight.jpg

You'll end up with that behemoth I posted earlier :D
