  1. i remember we spoke about that a while ago. not many people realize the tropi reefer is not a high cube, while most other reefers (64' armn, bnsf etc. ) are. i have more of those 90' shells too if you need some.

  2. Quantity does not mean more of an impact in the world.

The average person does not know anything about graff.

during the Renaissance, the average person didnt know about Renaissance artists either.

The Renaissance is only monumental in historical context. during the Renaissance they knew it was some new shit, just like Henry and Martha knew it was some new shit when Part and Slave were doing whole cars on the 2s and 5s.

i think the purpose of Writing (not graffiti) has no real value outside of the Writing culture. For that reason, i doubt it will have much of an impact on humanity - even in 5000 years. However, what writing has done is bring together people of all races and socio-economic backgrounds unlike anything else in recent history except maybe sports. to that end, in the future i could see it recognized for that more than the actuall art.

as for old school writers and their egos, MAD MAD MAD MAD people get paid off of graffiti, including the creators of this site. the people who created, popularized and made it so cool that YOU wanted to be involved deserve all the passes they can get.

  3. ZEPHYR: The arrow... everybody's got their own arrow, I like that though. Various arrow, some guys had add on letter arrow that was like connection. Some people had different arrows just going right through their pieces.

have not seen it in a while, but i believe that was Noc167, not Zephyr

  4. "Nobody" speaks for everybody.

The internet doesn't have a dictator yet. Only a bunch of cats and bad spelling.

You adapt your game to the city you live in. Although almost every artist shown in this thread has done non-legals at some, or many points, the reality is that you're not going to get very far bombing in a place with a population of 75,000. This isn't a major metro city. You're also likely to get heated up pretty quick, and so you adapt. We have a resource here in the heart of our downtown that increases our quality of life. Working with what we have, we are able to make extra income off of commissioned murals, art shows, community projects, etc. We have started a mural funding program, so that we don't even have to pay for our paint. Since July, we've gone through over $4000 in materials, wholesale through Art Primo. Painting legals got me out of working 12 hour days at a mine. I work for the Arts Council now, setting up skateboard and kidrobot art shows, doing blackbook sessions, arranging public murals, and hosting out of town artists when they come to paint. We have three coming from Minneapolis at the end of this week. It's a dream job, and at the end of the night I get to go home to my wife and kids rather than being stuck in county with a bunch of assholes. I was even able to get one of our writers a 12 day leave from county to participate in an art exhibit.

I will always have the upmost respect for the writers out there taking chances, and sticking with traditional graffiti. That's the essence of the game. It just isn't a sensible option for us out here though.

If legals aren't your thing, this thread isn't for you. My city gives a fuck about legal walls.

    well put.

Most of the work is done by locals so far, but we are trying to turn it into a midwest graffiti vacation spot. That is why I made this thread- to try and get out of state heads interested in coming to paint. Last weekend we had Daesk and Biafra out from Minneapolis along with a film crew. They had a blast. Their hotel stay was given to them free of charge by a hotel directly attached to the alley, and we supplemented their paint. We're pretty good hosts out here as long as you're not a dick. We're trying to get a midwest graffiti jam going out here next year with the help of some friends in the bigger surrounding cities (Denver, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Chicago).

As for Sturgis, it's about half an hour away. We couldn't score you free rooms during that time of year because everything is packed during that time, but that's how we met Chicago O.G. Fess this year. He stumbled upon Art Alley on the way out of town after Sturgis. He'll be back next year too. And if you've seen a picture of Rushmore, it's not much different looking at the real thing. It is one big ass piece of graffiti tho.

if i was at a different place in my life i would prolly move there. I love the cold, and I never really cared much for street bombing. but whats the freight situation like? I apologize if you already mentioned this. I see there are a few lines that run through the state. What you guys are thinking along the lines of midwest graffiti vacation spot is actually a pretty clever idea. Good luck with it.

  5. in 50 years, documenting the toy shit will be important. When i used to bench on the NY subways kids used to say - why you shooting that wack shit. Now those same "wack fliks" are rare. If you are into documenting this culture, shoot until your heart is content. in the age if digital photography when you have 1 million flik capacity on a digi card, why not? I remember missing a lot of fliks cause all i had was a roll of 24exp film..

    keep benching!!
