  1. Green clean up on the LA River? That's comical. That water is so polluted, you'll come out with extra limbs.
  2. Good call on Duran Duran's Rio album and Nas' Illmatic is classic.

Harvey Wallbanger, you can also find bikes around your neighborhood. Considering where you live, I bet you can find a decent used one at a bike shop. eBay has bikes too but the shipping charges are steep. I do not recommend a fixed gear for your wife. Gears are her friends. If she had to make sharp turn down a hill, she'll be flying (possibly onto and over a car!) I think the most difficult part is finding a frame for her size, especially if she's a shorty. Good luck.
  4. Re: But If We Started Dating It Would Ruin Our Friendship Where I Ask You To Do Things And I have a few friends that have fallen for men that "aren't their type". But I still think in the back of their mind they knew these guys had a chance. I still give it less than a month before men fall into the permanent friend zone. Its like Gilligan's Island. Once you are there, you never get out.
  5. Re: But If We Started Dating It Would Ruin Our Friendship Where I Ask You To Do Things And Women immediately know if they want to sleep with you or not. They act a lot different around the men they are attracted to. It's obvious. If she hasn't let you in her pants within a few weeks of hanging out, its probably never gonna happen and you can kiss that fantasy good-bye. Men either need to move on and accept her as a just a friend. Being friends with women is great cause it is the easiest way to meet OTHER women. Plus, showing up in public with a bunch of hot chicks you are friends with can only work in your favor. Or you can front like you aren't catching feelings, let her step all over you, and act like a little bitch when she doesn't feel the same way. It's your call, gentlemen. But I don't recommend the latter.
  6. This song is THE jam. I bet a ton of cholas made some babies listening to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cTOIPZw_t0 You are Everything - The Stylistics

  8. Also... Angel Baby - Rosie & The Originals Always & Forever - Heat Wave Always & Forever was my song with my childhood sweetheart circa 1994-1995. For real. :)
  9. I also remember cholos always smelled like sunflowers because they used Tres Flores to train their hair. Don't forget those little rubber hand combs from the gas station and some nylon stockings. Cholos and cholas love to party as well. I remember going to house parties when I was a kid and listening to break beats with a bunch of gangsters. The first person I ever saw breakdancing was a cholo. I love that pop locking scene from the movie Colors. Popping & Locking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu9x8-4mgfs Freestyle - The Party Has Just Begun
  10. 1994 one of the best years of my life: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53TXazXfy5w Masta Ace - Born To Roll Lighter Shade of Brown - Hey DJ StreetPeep/More street smarts than a beat up alley cat
  11. I love the idea of all these cholos with no school and no job dropping acid and watching public access in the middle of the day. Classic. A must read: To achieve the chola look: Aquanet + $.99 brown eyeliner used around the lips + White lipstick = I can go on all day. I grew up with skeezies and hoodrats like this. Thank you, Los Angeles Unified School District.
  12. Teen Angel Magazine: If you want to seduce a chola, play this: If you want to watch some gangster shit, watch this:
  13. What gangsters in Los Angeles were watching on TV back in 1990s.... Lets paint, exercise, and blend drinks. If you don't know, now you know.

I didn't spend more than $300 on my first road bike either. I'm glad I used that old bike for cruising around town and building some bike handling skills. Its still my bike of choice for locking up on the street. My Trek I use now feels light as a feather compared to my old bike and it has way too much sentimental value to ever risk getting it stolen (a gift from a former love). My friends from out of town got me into riding bikes. It was their transportation method of choice and I had to immediately catch on to join them at the bars. Its kind of nice to see people in Los Angeles catching onto riding. Its a combination of the transplants/out-of-towners who brought their bikes with them, and young kids just following another fashion trend. I loved going to cyclo-cross races in the Winter and crits in the Spring. Its been a breath of fresh air to learn about interests outside of art and graffiti.
  15. Stranger allegedly slaps crying child in store (CNN) -- A Georgia man allegedly slapped a toddler at a Walmart store because she wouldn't stop crying, authorities said. http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/09/02/georgia.tot.slapped/
  16. I had very similar symptoms when I came back from New York City. It sure as hell wasn't a hangover. One of the worst plane rides ever. Thankfully I had some Xanax left. What did the doctor say? Is swine flu really a cause for alarm?
  17. Do not share your textbooks with anyone. Its such an inconvenience. Get your own. I once bought a $140 textbook on Amazon.com for $7.00. Where there is a will, there is a way.
  18. You can always get the five finger discount at the university bookstore. They are always packed the first week of class. There is no way those kids working there can keep track of everyone. Amazon.com and half.com are pretty reliable as well. Don't buy your textbooks for full price. That's for suckers aka freshmen.
  19. I have not ridden the Blue Line in years. From 7th Street/Metro to Long Beach it’s a pretty depressing ride. A lot of crackheads, gangsters, and women with way too many damn kids. I didn’t belong on that train and I don’t live anywhere near those stops. I didn’t think about the social aspects or circumstances of that area . I was just a young buck that started writing at the time and I was down to go wherever, whenever. Now I don’t even party below Alameda or Washington. What is going on in North Hollywood? Wasn’t there a gang shoot out last week?
  20. I thought this thread about was about this incident . Best quote of 2007. Have you ever seen that crackhead on the Blue Line with the glass eye? He gives a big speech about how he's a converted ex-crackhead and has found Jesus. Then he takes his glass eye out and asks for donations. He also gives the same speech in Spanish. Impressive. I've mostly seen people evade fare by moving to another car and getting off the next stop when the sheriff gets on the train. I can't believe somebody died over this. I need to know the circumstances. Nothing so far on the LA Times website.
  21. That's right. Hundreds of shoppers smashed through windows at a Long Island Wal-Mart early Friday morning, killing one store employee in the stampede. Click here to read more details. News' reader Nakea Augustine caught the chaotic scene on her cell phone, check out the photos. The unruly crowds stormed the store at 5 a.m., when the Valley Stream store opened. Above, shoppers wait for the doors to open. Hundreds gathered before the store's opening. The crowd trampled a 34-year-old worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, who was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead just after 6 a.m. A 28-year-old pregnant woman was also trampled in the mad rush and hospitalized for observation. Shoppers continued to pour into the store after the man was knocked to the ground before police shut down the store. Source: Nyorkdailynews.com The worst part is, the employee that was killed just a temp.

Can anyone recommend a decent trainer? It doesn't have to be top of the line. I don't race and my bike is pretty old (carbon fiber Trek from the 90s). It just sucks on days like this (where they are wildfires everywhere) I can't do any outdoor activity. I hate skipping too much time between rides or workouts.
  23. The Kennedys were far from regal. They faced a lot of discrimination because of their Irish Catholic background. Joe Kennedy, the family patriarch, was not accepted at Harvard and quickly learned the best way for him to move up in society was through politics, not academics. The Kennedys' involvement in politics is no coincidence. Their every move has been masterminded by Joe Kennedy. It was strictly Jacqueline Kennedy that helped the Kennedy clan project a “regal” image. Her marriage to JFK was also planned by Joe Kennedy. During the late 1950s, people did not want to put their trust in a womanizing Irish Catholic. She was educated, classy, cultured, well-dressed, and artistic. She was a real political asset to JFK’s presidential campaign and with her help the image “Camelot” was created.
