  1. Honestly all Decos are is oil paint thinned down with Xylene. So if you take some oil based paint and some xylene, you'll literally have the exact same thing
  2. Is the ball bearing messed up? It can happen when you write on a rough surface like concrete. If you feel like it isn't, take a safety pin or something and poke it around the tip... see if anything happens. If that doesn't work, but you feel like it's still savable, take off the top and try the safety pin trick from the other side.
  3. If you do decide to make a chapstick marker, I'd use something like a dramamine bottle. You don't have to worry about sealing the bottom or worrying about it leaking from the bottom.
  4. I feel like you're talking about opaque inks, which means they're pigmented. Pigmented inks don't always work so well mixed with dye based inks. Gotta make sure the base is the same. If you want opacity, stick with paint. In my opinion the biggest advantage of using dye based inks is that it has far less problems being used out of any sort of marker because it's so much thinner. But if you're just using a mop, why not use paint?
  5. You could fill an eye dropper with paint. Though you'd probably only get like half of a tag out of it... That's a very silly thing to want though... A marker small enough for your wallet? Why not something that can fit in your shoe? Or you could use a chapstick marker.
  6. Yo I've been watching you post on this thread for a long time and you've taught me a lot, so I'm not trying to disrespect or anything. But the reason you got caught with your shoes scuffed up most likely wasn't because of the quality of the Kiwi dye. It's meant to be put on, set overnight, reapplied, then after another overnight stay you're supposed to polish it. Granted, it may not be as high of quality as Fiebings leather dye (you could use that mess by itself), but it's still not a joke like you make it out to be. And actually that Kiwi leather dye is a great supplement to pen ink recipes because it 1. Gives body to the ink and makes it last longer (i.e., doubles the amount you have) and 2. Is a great body for a mop when the bottle is empty. Also as far as how it acts in the sunlight, especially if you're putting it in a pen ink recipe, you shouldn't be using it in the sunlight anyway because pen inks are an ink that's fast to fade. Why worry about how hard it'll stain if you know it'll stay? Like it's been said before, the buff is gonna get rid of a tag no matter how "hard" it stains.
  7. This is the way to go: http://www.kiwicare.com/kiwimcmssite/us/products/leather/leather-dye.html And I'd love to see some pictures.
  8. Nothing is strong enough to fuck with the buff. Ever. If somebody wants to make it so they don't see your tag anymore, they will do so. The only times a tag "survives" the buff is whenever the person trying to remove your tag doesn't care enough to remove it completely.
  9. Isocol is only about 45% percent isopropyl alcohol. You're getting better results with the methylated spirits because it has a higher content of alcohol. The "clumps" you're seeing are most likely the ink from the pens being congealed by whatever the alcohol is mixed down with.
  10. Do not heat up methylated spirits. I guarantee it will ignite. You'd be better off heating up rubbing alcohol, but you still probably shouldn't do it. And as far as the number of pens goes, honestly you should put in more pens than you think, because you can always thin down your ink if you think it's too thick.
  11. The dude above me is right- rubbing alcohol should be at most if not all drugstores all over the world. But going back to your original question you shouldn't have any real problems with using the ethanol based alcohol. The only reason it's referred to as methylated spirits is because in order for ethanol-based alcohol manufacturers to avoid getting taxed the same way normal, drinking alcohol does (which is also ethanol-based) is to make it undrinkable, hence the addition of things like methane. That being said, just don't let your hands soak in the stuff for a long time or inhale the shit... Definitely not good for you. I'm actually interested to see if I'm right or wrong, and if there's something in the methylated spirits that would make the pen ink not as good. Let us know what you find.
  12. 1. I doubt you searched this thread well enough to say that. There was pen ink discussion just a few pages back. 2. Either way, yes- if you use black and blue pens, it will get a shiny blue hue if it's opaque enough.
  13. Man I hate saying this, but you're wasting your money. I guarantee you will get the EXACT same thing if you went to your local hardware store, bought some Rusto silver paint and some Rusto white glossy paint, mixed them together to create the color you wanted, and then made your mix 1/3 paint thinner and 2/3 paint. It's cheap, permanent, and fun/easy to make your own colors. At least give it a shot. Good luck
  14. You're right, I meant the Ink thread. Good looking out.
  15. Thank you for your contribution.
