  2. The notion that Hitler didn't invade Switzerland because he feared their armed forces is kinda adventurous, gently spoken. Switzerlands neutrality was the reason why Hitler didn't bother to send divisions (Sweden was spared that way too). Remember, it took the COMBINED forces of the world's mightiest armies at the time to bring the Wehrmacht down. Switzerland's military power was a dwarf compared to say France's which got vanquished with ease. Infact this -that it is so little- is the sole reason why Switzerland was neutral (and still remains so).

  4. Re: Absinthe! Absinth does not contain any hallucinogen. The myth about its toxicity emerged because from the late 18th thru the 19th and early 20th centuries it was kind of chic among intellectuals and artists (Van Gogh was a prominent Absinth addict) in Europe and many people consumed so much of it that it would damage their liver and braincells due to its high percentage of alcohol (up to 80%). Also many daily consumers tended to use higher thinning-ratios than standard 1-3 to 1-5. the "fire-ritual" was made up by Czech and Polish distillers in the late 1990's in order to make their product more attractive for potential buyers. the traditional (French or Swiss) "rituals" do not involve firing. I prefer usually French or Swiss-made Absinth but there are some good Czech and Polish brands too. A good bottle starts around € 50. my 2 cents
