SRM had a blog running where they were posting power data for a few riders throughout the whole tour. This is from Greipel's Stage 10 win. Check out the speeds! Some of the numbers are pretty insane! Graphs for the big mountain stages are also pretty cool.

It was so awesome to see Cadel win!
  3. Actually, there needs to be legislation. And this is an understood and accepted requirement for the operation of free markets. Laws need to exist. Property rights need to be protected. Contracts need to be enforced. And so on. Hence why I said I though you had misconceptions about free markets... The state essentially needs to take the role of an umpire to enforce these laws. The state however does not control markets - i.e. it does not control supply/demand, prices, etc.
  4. There is no such assumption. The assumption is that there will be legislation in place to stop collusion, coercion, manipulation, etc. of the markets, as administered by the state. By the same token, it will only take a few good people to stand up and prevent the system from being torn down.

Hopefully the Alps are a bit more interesting. That main bunch has several genuine GC contenders, all in good form. Shelcks are attacking but they can't break them apart. I want a château.
  6. It's winter. But I might make one of those lists for summer in a few months time.
  7. Bernanke is completely right. Money is merely a medium which enables us to exchange goods and services. You can't exchange gold nuggets for bread or meat, or cars, or whatever. Maybe you could hundreds of years ago. But not in 2011. As such gold is simply a commodity that is dug up out of the ground.
  8. Without going into detail, my main issues with some of the arguments presented in this thread are: - the assumption that people are motivated by greed - the absence of any discussion on altruism in relation to charity - that the free market system is based on greed. If you really understand the free market theory you would understand that it basically relates to the absence of regulation of markets by government. People are free to set up enterprises in order to make profit, just as they are free to set up enterprises to help others. Its central argument is that government purely collects taxes and enforces laws/contracts. The greed thing is particularly annoying. You can't say that 6 billion (or whatever it is) on this planet are motivated by greed. It's also completely false to say that a free market system would turn 6 billion people into greedy monsters.
  9. Ha that should be good. But I think Sir Charles has better insight into the game.
  10. It's hard to pay down because compound interest is a bitch. I assume you probably have high rate (15-20%??) on both. Ideally you want to.... - find another card that allows balance transfers - i.e. so you can transfer your debt over to the new card, and cancel the old cards - preferably the new card has a very low rate on balance transfer - look around and you'll find deals. some banks here were offering like 0% for 6months - then you pay that entire debt off whilst the low rate is in effect - never have to do this again You just need to be careful with fees, other charges, rates that explode ridiculously high if you stuff up, etc. Good luck.
  11. I've read both threads......and I don't know where to begin. I really can't be fucked replying to every CILONE/SK post. You seem to have some major misconceptions about free market theory, as well as economics in general.
  12. They're usually all cunts. Last flight....I get on all good and notice both seats next to me are empty. A bit unusual, but anyway the plane prepares to disconnect from the thing when they make an announcement there's going to be a slight delay because a passenger is running late. Turns out it was a dude thats sitting in my row. Plane gets ready to go again....another delay....someone running late. It turns out to be some bitch that was drinking at the bar when she got told they were announcing her name on the pa. Bitch sits next to me too! I was pretty pissed off to be sitting next to these tardy motherfuckers.
  13. I'd go the Victorinox - assuming it is the auto version? GMT is that extra hand which is basically for another time zone.

Yeah big TdF fan. The nation's hopes rest with Cadel. It's been stressful following him the last few years. I was really looking forward to seeing Soler racing, pretty sad about his crash
  15. Is it time to reconsider the role of government in financing and administering public education? Any thoughts on the privatization argument, Milton Friedman, etc?
  16. I hope they bring out a clothing line so I can rock that shit to my local Centrelink when I go to put the form in.
