  1. part 2 this is one of my personal favorites that i've taken in the past few months
  2. here's a bunch more from our class outing last week, these were taken with my d300s. the stuff i posted like 2 pages back were shot with my teachers canon (i've never shot with a canon before so it took a little bit to get used to the different control layout) because she had a tilt shift lens that she was letting us try out. and i think i was the only one in the class that knew much about the lens, because i was the only one that was really stoked to shoot with it. also, i'm going to break this up into 2 posts, because it's kind of long. i know mn1 posted one of this guy, but he was going nuts on this cabbie for like ten minutes, so i got a bunch of shots as well. i didn't see the beginning, but he was saying that the cabbie almost took his arm off.
  3. Some stuff from today wandering around in the class MN1 and I have together. Went down to Union Station for a little to shoot. my teacher suggested that it might look cool if someone was behind the plastic so she went outside to see if it worked, and you couldn't see anything, so she just ripped the side and walked behind it so i could get the shot.
  4. i think Crunch would be a good start. if everyone agrees, post em by next tuesday.
  5. i've been getting a lot of shit from toxicbreed lately
  6. We had that rolling for a long time with the og photo hunt thread. But, I think it'd be fun to do it with just one word a week, so it's not so overwhelming.
  7. The black and white really brings a cohesiveness to your work and let me really examine the people in the images rather than being bombarded with vibrant colors. The waiter, the blind woman jumping rope, the lighting of the cigarette, and the 2nd to last all really reminded me of Henri Cartier-Bresson's non-wartime editorial work. The picture of the waiter really stood out to me. The juxtaposition of a man in a tuxedo and the wall behind him is fantastic. Also, the combination of it being b&w and his hairstyle/mustache really give it a timeless feel. I can say the same for the lighting of the cigarette, well not the hair/mustache part obviously. But, if I didn't have a reference to when it was shot I don't know if I would be able to correctly identify the decade. The tonal range on the face in that image is perfect. I'm glad that you posted first so now I know exactly what we're going for. And since it took me so long to respond, I'll have time to really get some things together/work further on a cohesive body of work and a narrative to accompany it. I've been working on shooting my neighborhood since I moved to Chicago only about a month and a half ago, and have never lived in a truly urban setting where street shooting is so accessible. I've always liked your work, and it's always interested me since you live in Panama. But, being able to see it all together with a background of the neighborhood and short descriptions of the images really gave me a deeper appreciation of it.
  8. Mayor, I'm definitely on board for the Portfolio review thread. I was holding off on posting anything for the last week because I wanted to do something cool for my 1,000th post. Then I thought about it and remembered when rage made a new name so he could do something for his 10,000th post and I realized 1,000 is not that much of a milestone. Also, mn I think we should start posting our weekly word pictures from susannah's class. We'll see if this post reaches you before I see you around campus. Every week we're given a note card with a word on it, we get 30-45 minutes to go out and shoot it. Last week my word was Liquid.
  9. homie's new band. 3 song demo. super heavy live shows. http://toxicbreedsfunhouse.blogspot.com/2010/10/livid-demo.html
  10. well, my pre-conceived notions were incorrect. i read an interview with him in the source last month. it was pretty good. however the sidebar about other pros wasn't so informed. they said 3 "up and comers" on "the scene" were slutzka, lynz hawk adams, and chris cole. and they said that chris cole is credited with inventing the tre flip. i know it's a hip hop magazine, but that's just bad journalsim. i mean what source told them that cole invented it? edit: i'm correct in thinking it was jason lee that invented it, right? or was it mullen?
  11. stoked for the free blacklisted/ringworm show on saturday. really hoping blacklisted's set isn't as boring as it was at this is hardcore, but ringworm never disappoints me.
  12. i'd like to do commercial and editorial stuff. and save up enough money to build myself a darkroom to do fine art stuff on the side for fun, and maybe money. also, here's a few more from last week i thought it was super awkward that they had fountains spraying this statue in the face
  13. i knew the first semester wouldn't be incredibly amazing, since it's mainly pre req's. i just can't wait to start shooting in the studio using the mimayas w/ digital backs.
  14. yeah, i'm going over a lot of basic stuff i already know, camera wise. but, once we've started discussing commercial stuff, it's all new to me. hyped on that. also hyped on the class that he's talking about where we go out as a class and have a limited time to interpret the word, it's reminding me of 06-07 when i was big into the original photo hunt thread. not stoked on the super serious history of photography test i have tomorrow night though.
  15. dear 20 eyes, start posting again on a regular basis
  16. i hate sheckler, but i'll give him props on stop two for bust those huge tricks off that bump in the "big section" i really wanna see biebel do the tech section, because i feel like he could flip in flip out almost every attempt.
  17. donovan strain posted this link on his twitter. never heard of this dude, but if he doesn't blow up soon, i'll be real surprised. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo7_zS0vwOw&feature=sub 3:05 isn't even a "real" trick. wtf?
  18. also, if you like that, good chance you'll like the band pacer.
  19. i know it's not hardcore, but i'm drunk, so fuck it. i'm sure there's people in here that like jawbreaker. if so, check out bearings, i just got expire/exist, it reminds me of dear you era jawbreaker.
  20. he has one of my favorite board graphics. the hockey fight one, i think it was from like 99-00ish. thinking it was world for some reason, but i could be completely wrongs because i've been drinking whiskey for hours. also, i'd love to sit and watch him, chalmers, and childress session a pool, concrete park, tranny, ditch, et cetera for hours.
