  1. Depends. If I'm just hailing a cab to go somewhere off the street, I'll throw a few (meaning three) dollars or so. If I'm calling for a pick-up, I usually call the same company, or a lot of the times I call the drivers direct and I always tip them pretty nice. If they have to go out of their way to pick you up, it's late or they could be picking up a more profitable fare, the fact that you tip well will stick in their head and they'll get you sooner. Cab company's where I live are notorious for "forgetting" to pick you up and on the weekends it's next to impossible to call for a pick-up and not wait an hour or more. I never tip the people who clear your plates off the table at all you can eat buffets, discuss.

The difference between mountain bike shoes and road shoes is that with road shoes you're walking directly on the cleat, which is noisy, bad for the cleat and chances are, if you're like me, you'll roll your ankle. Think shoes with a stiff bottom that have a inch of metal sticking out from under your foot. Mtb shoes have lugs around the cleat so you have more support on your feet. Skip the carbon fiber doo-dads, unless your racing, you don't need it. Just get a pair of mtb shoes and some SPD cleats and you're in business, trust me, if you do a lot of riding, you'll love it. Like fist said, it's like wearing tap dancing shoes, think soccer cleats. So yeah, they're loud, usually if I'm headed somewhere indoors or don't want to look/feel like a dick rocking cleated shoes, I'll throw a pair of sneakers in my bag.

You're going to want to get mountain bike shoes that are SPD compatible if you're using Crank Brother's pedals, but it really depends on what kind of riding you're doing. If you're planning on being off your bike for any amount of time walking, go with mtb shoes. I have a pair of both, and I don't like to even wear my road shoes when I'm just riding. Living in a city where you are constantly stopping at lights and for traffic just doesn't feel safe to me on traditional road shoes, although if you're riding in rural areas and will be clipped in most of the time, I don't see why not. There are also sneakerish shoes with mounts for cleats available if you don't like the look of cleated mtb shoes, I would imagine that if you're spending a fair amount of time off you're bike they'd come in handy, but I carry a pair of sneakers with if I'm planning on being on my feet for long periods. Hope that helps.
  4. Had this a few times the last week or so, bottled and on tap. Pretty good. Also really digging Sam Adams Summer Ale, I used to really hate on Sam Adams, but I'm starting to come around to their seasonal brews.

  15. Hell yeah. I have super vivid and graphic dreams quite frequently, most of them are multi-part dreams. I'm a super light sleeper, I wake up every hour or so, but the dreams always pick back up where they were and I'm pretty lucid in the majority of them. A lot of them are also realistic - to the point that I wake up and it takes me a few moments to realize whats going on.
  16. I had an awesome dream the other night, the best part was that I woke up several times and went back to sleep and the dream continued, also I was fully aware of what was going on and I'm pretty sure that I was making conscience decisions in said dream. It took place in a post-apocalyptic earth where a race of aliens that looked like humans, except they all looked the same and their heads were larger and really strained - I could see stress tears by their ears and what not, were enslaving what was remaining of the human population. Think Terminator Salvation type stuff. I guess I was some rebel-type fighter and I went to where they enslaved humans and mutated them into their race, which entailed them placing a huge metal-electrical-alien yoke thing around their heads and making them drink what can best be described as afterbirth. That shit was gnarly, watching the transformation process, and there was also a whole lot of emotion in what I was looking at, mad despair and anguish and whatnot. Plus there was huge piles of bodies and skulls of the ones who didn't transform properly (or so I believe). After that, I pretty much rode dirtbikes through the desert for a while until I made it to a little oasis village. I got laid in the village by this lady, she knew that they were all going to die, yet was peaceful and really calm about the whole thing. I wanted to stay and fight, but she told me I had to leave. So I left and pretty much rode dirtbikes around the desert some more until my cat woke me up. TL;DR I had a dream where I killed aliens, rode dirtbikes and got laid. Gnarly.
  17. haha. this is one of three sites I ever go to. The other two being craigslist and my local news site. everything I know about internetz I learned through 12 oz.
  18. Wow, great thread! I went to probably a couple hundred shows in the early 2000's. I live relatively close to NYC, Philly, Baltimore and D.C., so I'd go to a couple a week, sometimes catching the same band in 3 different cities if I could. My problem was that I almost always (read always) got super fucked up and didn't really enjoy/remember 90% of the gigs I've been to. I was talking to someone today about Gogol Bordello and how I don't really care for them, and five minutes after the convo was over I realized that not only did I see them once, but twice - totally forgotten. I saw the Pixies when they first reunited in D.C. and hated it because I was broke and sober, kind of a bummer to look back onto it now. Most memorable was most definitely Bad Brains with Murphy's Law opening in D.C. at the 9:30 club. The Bad Brains were everything I had hoped for and more. So awesome. I also saw Mission of Burma several times and they put on the best show I've ever been to, everytime. The Rapture shortly after their first album dropped was amazing as well. I took a break for a few years while dealing with addiction issues, but also saw Dinosaur Jr. in that time frame which was awesome, although Mike Watt opening kind of blew Dinosaur Jr. away. I turned 30 this past winter and I'm trying to get my drinking under control (not drinking at all). Not going so well. I saw The Queers last week, and was really stoked to see them as they're one of favorite bands, but it sucks because I pretty much blacked out by the time they came on, although I was told later that I had a really great time. It sucks! I'm so used to having a beer in hand at shows, that its a really hard habit to break, not to mention that it helps me overcome my social anxiety. But it sucks even more that I saw tons of awesome bands and have so little to show for it except a few t-shirts and ticket stubs. So that's where I'm at now. I decided that I'm going to go to as many shows as possible again, that really was the best time of my life. I'm going to try and do it over minus the booze and drugs. Edit: I just remembered Yo La Tengo, fucking amazing! Met the band outside at a sold out show and came in as their guests, awesome!
  19. Seems like an awfully tedious and un-safe way to cop drugs. Cool idea nonetheless, props to the guys doing this. But for real, fuck getting drugs delivered to you in the mail.
  20. I've always been a pretty big fan of The Penetrators. 21. Oh shit, the Spider Babies! I have an LP on vinyl, but couldn't ever find any downloads for it. Anybody know of any links? Related - Coco Cobra & The Killers : I Need Sex - I have this whole album that I could upload if anyone wants it.
  22. LMAO at "this is your final warning" after dude got choke slammed and was already on the ground. DAO will have a field day with this. UMAD levels will increase rapidly.
  23. Just for a change of pace. From the Grateful Dead super thread. New Riders of The Purple Sage: Death and Destruction -
  24. Semi-related I've been listening to The New Riders of The Purple Sage a bunch lately. This song did it for me - Really weird, because I grew up hearing this from my father, they were his favorite band in his early 20's, I just never really gave them a chance. Big ups to parents with awesome record collections.
