  1. Cock and Hoop. Nice cosy boozer but they haven’t put the fire on yet despite the rain battering Britain right now
  2. Located in the old (now destroyed) slums, the Newshouse used to be the place where the working class men used to come to have the opportunity to read newspapers. I don’t think the toilets have changed since it was rebuilt after WW2
  3. Supposedly the oldest pub in the England, this is about a 5 minute walk from work but I never go here as it’s usually rammed full of tourists. They say it was built in 1169 and was a stop off for crusaders heading to Jerusalem. There’s loads of ghosts and spooky goings on too like a cursed galleon and a chair that if you sit in you’ll get pregnant.
  4. Doctor’s Orders. Same owners as the barrel drop I posted the other day. I think it was a chemist back in the day hence the name, they have all medicine bottles on the walls too. A bit further out of town and usually attracting old folk, but it usually has a a few decent beers on.
  5. The Billy aka King Billy aka the William the 4th. This pub has been in the family a while now and is always good for a pint in an environment that feels like your grandmas lounge. Some local news filmed me drinking here once but lord knows if they ever put it on air.
  6. Barrel Drop. Decent little boozer down an alley. Pretty quiet for a city centre pub so always good to visit.
  7. Someone on insta made me aware of this one too. Haven’t started reading yet
  8. Greek book focussing on a famous yard out there
  9. The basement collection was something else. There were dissertations that were 1/1 books people had done that they’d donated to him. Incredible stuff and a great celebration of the culture
  10. They definitely have different names for this depending on where you are. I love anything Ayinger do and they have the best bottle cap design
  11. Today’s beer discovery. A brewery in a cow shed on the Calke Abbey estate and a really big pork scratching
  12. Fox and grapes . This place was closed for years then got taken over by the local brewery and now it’s a decent pub. Its claim to fame is that the landlord was stabbed to death outside the place walking his dog in 1963. They still don’t know who did it and it became known as the pretty windows murder due to the fancy glass windows they had. What I find really odd/ morbid is there’s a kids nursery next door called pretty windows nursery.
  13. I’m glad you appreciate them! There’s many many more to come
  14. Today’s pint. One of the only pubs to have air con and it’s always at the sweet spot. It’s too hot to do a pub crawl so I’m going home after this
  15. I only bought it as it was reduced. I’ll have a look for that thread 🐶
  16. I don’t know what the deal is with the Steve Austin beer over in the states. This one is “out of date” so was significantly cheaper than the regular price so picked one up. Reminds me of how DIPAs tasted before everything had to be hazy
  17. What you don’t see in a photo is him on the table just assuming that is how you do things in the pub.
