  1. I fucking love zines. If anyone has any for sale or trade HMU!
  2. ^^^ I used to skate with a dude who went there. He makes things out of wood. Like pretty much anything you can make out of wood, and says its an awesome school! Im a fine arts major but I am focussing on illustration, design, printmaking, and painting.
  3. You don't necessarily need to have a "theme" that joins the work together. You are going to want to send them your strongest work, whatever that may be. A self portrait is a super traditional staple of a student portfolio, so you may want to include one. Bigger=Better is misleading, it might actually be detrimental to your work if you just rush into painting huge canvas's for the sake of scale. If you feel like you have a strong grasp of what makes up a good composition, you can make a smaller canvas feel more open. You should study cubism, not necessarily to recreate that aesthetic, but because of the principles of image making that were driving that movement forwards. Look at Matisse and Braque and Picasso's compositional choices. I mean you should really just read a lot in general, study everything, even if it seems totally irrelevant. Its important to understand art in an art historical context to move forwards with your own work. And don't even stress it dude. Just work on your portfolio until you feel comfortable with what you are sending out. You'll get in man. A lot of schools have relatively high acceptance rates (meaning if you are halfway decent at holding a paintbrush you will get in) and high dropout rates (it almost feels like the first year is an endurance test, you'll be surprised how many students wont return after your first semester) Just out of curiosity, what school are you applying to, is it in the states? (current student)
  4. ^^^ That show had the best costume design ever.
  5. Dude twin peaks is the best show ever. Well maybe not, but its really awesome. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  6. I like all of those dood. Smashed Tangerine that illustration is killer. Rolley, I feel like the top is too strong for the bottom, it makes it seem unresolved. I think you should bring in darker tones down there maybe. Something strong to pull it together.
  7. The painting is done bro, although you may want to cut back on that white splatter on his face
  8. I like the mountains and the grass and the dear. Edit (and the water)
  9. http://sanslechien.tumblr.com/ Why are there 20 guests hanging out in le thread? I would post seperate images but it would be a waste of space, peep some of the stuff I have been working on lately above. Mercer that shits cray. half man half robot prisoner all on acid.
  10. Public enemy is there collage work going on there or did you paint the bacgrounds or is that how the collab worked? I like the final effect you can get lost in them, they hall have a lot of depth in a really abstract sense. But they are all really illustrative. Overall very cool.
  11. Uploaded with ImageShack.us still life from class, oil.
  12. Also not just art school, but college in general, is more about connections than learning. You can pick up ANY book about ANYTHING and learn it dude, but that doesnt really matter. You have to be actively making connections. or whatever.
  13. What I have learned in recent times is a lot of things have a lot more to do with yourself and your abilities than your college. If you're an amazing artist, dope, but no one will really care if you are a total asshole, or if you are a total asshole, you have to make that marketable. And then a lot has to do with connections, no one ever really gets anywhere on there own. I think if you have the determination and drive to accomplish a goal, you should go for it. But there will probably be a lot of setbacks, and you should be ready to roll with the punches brah. Worst case scenario if you cant make the gallery scene work for you, graphic design, teach, hustle. Worst case scenario if you cant make weed school work out? I donno. But if you think you can be the best fucking weed grower and seller ever, do it dude, more power to you.
  14. So like, make sure your moms isn't listening. All alone? Okay. So the idea behind this was to create a plot driven rap album, that told the story of a fictional rap group (IV.League) and there misadventures in time travel, with the music industry, etc. And so yeah, thats what we did. I think its pretty neat, but then again I worked on it for a hot minute. It shows the groups progression to uber fame and the horrible ramifications as a result of that. Including death, rebirth, etc. So yeah lemme know what you think, its FREE! its satirical, and fun. http://illestvillainsleague.bandcamp.com/track/damned See what the critics have been saying about our ultra rad IV.League album! "The only post ironic, satanic pseudo heavy neo hip hop swagcore album you want to hear this century" -Ice Cube. "beautifully encapsulates the voice of a generation, grappling with complex themes such as time travel, the ineptitude of the music industry, and does so with a refreshing air of originality" -Nicholas Cage The entire concept based plot driven album for free download at http://illestvillainsleague.bandcamp.com
  15. Nah dood I am here its chillin! Traffic is hella fun to skate through and theres lots of bomb foods, graffitis to look at, galleries to see, and generally just fun shit. Cant find buds for under 20 dollars a gram which is a bummer. But cest la vie. The city is rad.
  16. Im gonna go skate around and eat pizza man. fuck this city. Im gonna cry yo.
  17. Mawthur fawcker, I see what you did there....
  18. Someone should help me find that green stuff I like in this godless city. That and food spots. Yee
  19. Lots of fire. I want that flies belt, and the paisley hoodie, and like errything.
  20. Public Enemy: Holy moly that animal is neat, the line work is seriously absurdly good. i would love to see almost some just line illustrations man. Cool style. Haybussa continues to just fuck with my brain getting dangerously close to photorealism. But maintains his original style/flair. radical. Super clean. Lewis and Clark: Really cool flow and line work, color might be cool. Broken Face. I really like the second one, some of them are just too busy or unfinished looking for my brain. You are probably about as patient as me :p but I do like what you are doing. Just clean it up a little (time=quality with that style, crisp edges would make it so much doper) Edogg: Those paintings are fine, I cant fucking paint for shit but you could bump up the contrast a little. contrast is a powerful tool. what I really like is the geometric paintings. Maybe tone down the backgrounds so the lines pop more. I like the layout a LOT. Short FUse: Makes me want to learn how to make shit with my hands. So dope. StonerBoner: Blasphemously good for a first "non graffiti painting". Dont stop.
  21. this is fucking dope, i really am feeling this style! punk rock.
  22. ^^^^ Fuck weed where can I get me that dank pruno! Im moving to Manhattan.
  23. Compare just San Francisco to the entire STATE of washington and ignore all skateparks, Id skate Frisco. But your right, this is partially because since a huge part of the industry is cali based, they have a very good skate scene. And trust me I am very jealous of a lot of the spots Ive seen in countless videos.
