The Olympics seems like an irrelevant dog and pony show. Especially considering the downward spiral of the economy here in the US. The only thing I recall about the previous is that Michael Phelps takes bong rips and has an astronomical calorie intake.

Because I am perpetually broke I tend to exercise my library card rather than purchase books. After a few attempts at Gravity's Rainbow I realized I'd have to own it, if I was ever to get through it. So I went ahead and did so, and after a labored effort I managed to finish it. I won't pretend to have grasped it in any sense but I felt I could follow it enough to enjoy it. Certainly wouldn't recommend to the light reader. Also there was an artist that depicted each page from the book and got accolades for it..... I felt the art was shit myself. I never had a go at Infinite Jest but from what i gather I'm better off. I recall the author w/ 3 names made an effort to be as difficult and confusing as possible. The title seems to imply that, in retrospect. I'm lazy on the googling but I believe he went on to off himself, well played.

On a related note, if anyone actually purchased Opio's solo effort, he'll show up to your house and mow your lawn.

I'd be interested to check out that doc Santana. Cat's definitely unfolded in a way I hadn't expected but very much enjoyed. As far as Murakami, I feel you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't enjoy his work. I've read a great deal of his books and short stories. Wind up bird is certainly at the top of the list. One thing that stands out and makes me such a fan, is his protagonists. I find myself relating to them on a level so simple yet ever lacking in contemporary fiction. I just restarted on Mccarthys The Crossing. Awhile back I made it a point to read the entire border trilogy but got sidetracked. Along with Murakami, Mccarthy is another author who has never left me disappointed.

I ended up finishing it last night. Over all I enjoyed it and it certainly fits into the category of "deceptively simple". I was unfamiliar with Vonnegut so I don't think I read into it as much as I should have. I'll add it to the list of rereads. Props for bringing it up and in turn having me reconsider it. I'll close out with some words from Bokonon, Tiger got to hunt, Bird got to fly; Man got to sit and wonder, "Why, why, why?" Tiger got to sleep, Bird got to land; Man got to tell himself he understand.

I'm currently reading Cat's Cradle as well. Haven't really got into it though. Not that I particularly dislike anything about it. It just hasn't pulled me in.

I'll check this out. Definitely prefer the older Allen flicks. Though he wrote this script in the 70s so there's hope. Larry David is a plus for sure but he's only really played himself(curb) and has said he's not really an actor. There is also a level of irony because the plot revolves a old man marrying a young girl. Which Woody ended up going on to do in real life. Many years after this was written.

It's been taken down from youtube. I think it originally aired live on HBO. I'm not a huge fan of Lange, he's great on Stern. But he made, what would have been an otherwise bland sports/humor show hilarious.
