  1. Finally cooked something outside of grilled cheese and eggs sandwiches tonight...Felt I limited myself by forgetting to get some wine to cook with last night being I live in a dry county...sucks. Forgot Ive been wanting to do a different protein than the usual but I feel into using beef. Really wanting to do hen or duck. In time. SO! Grilled cut of rib eye. Topped with creamy shitake mushrooms. Sitting over top some dirty mashed red skin potatoes. Caramelized onions and brussels. Crumbled sharp cheddar. So this goes out to all the foodies. My good friend makes and sells Immersion Circulators for Sous Vide cooking. Hes wanted me to keep up to date with his companies facebook page. Hes going to pay me to get the likes up to 1000. Figured maybe this thread could bring in some followers that would really appreciate his company. Not trying to push any business or anything just hitting up the right area of the Ontz to help me make some dough. This is the link if youre interested. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Underground-circulators/198268270231326
  2. So i caught this scientists in FL doing ant hill casting and I thought how cool would that look upside down mounted as a type of abstract decor. So I tried it today. I think its freaking cool. Although i know some people would get all animal cruelty on me. You can actually see each ant because they left behind a black mark of themselves.
  3. Nice Im glad to see the thread going strong. Ive been slacking lately. quick eats for me like grilled cheese...bleh. Electrical issues in my studio and not cooking is creating a clog in my mind. Tomorrow I want to eat good! Will post up. Glad everyones rockn it. Congrats Red. And protester props on those eggs. love me some eggs, I should start mixn it up
  4. YES! not knocking drawing or painting but its nice to see more and more stuff branching out from the usual. that carving is looking good. cant spread rep....ARGH! lol
  5. Thanks. Im familiar with lost wax process, basically same idea, but I know you can get so much better detail with wax. Although I dont think Im going to gravitate towards jewelry any time soon. Im going to experiment on what details I can and cant get with the foam. Really from the looks of it and what Ive seen others do the limitations are in the foam. Going to pick up some extra tools today to help with the foam shaping. Ill definitely keep everything posted. The process documentation and everything has really helped me be more productive and Im very very very happy for that. Soon hopefully Ill incorporate some ceramic and wood aspects to tie the metal together.
  6. diggn that stuff. So Ive been melting a lot. processing down aluminum into ingots for easier use. Did the green sand mould for a test experience. And now I wanted to try the "Lost Foam" technique.....basically a foam form is made and the molten metal destroys it and takes it place once poured. polystyrene is needed ak Styrofoam made a simple lil vessel. got the channels glued to it etc submerged in sand after the pour yanked it out and dunked it in some water to cool off. Not bad for my first attempt on something simple. Kinda gives me an idea of my potential at the moment. Going to have to practice how to do the channels for the flow and all. Also did a lil test to see if I could lock in a stone etc. nothing special. just wanted to see the damage the metal might do.
  7. ive done so much on the computer in the past but when ever I would open maya or that one free program I forget the name i would cry (not literally)lol. i guess i never took the time to learn. I think all threads should be given life and Qba if this thread survives only because of you then Ill be glad to drop my compliments. You do some great work. Keep posting up!
  8. im sorry but I just got savages from red box and I thought it was awful. Dumb movie and over hyped.
  9. ive always heard the term "Exquisite Corpse" but never knew what it really meant. Thats pretty cool idea.
  10. thank you. I just like to share the process because that is how I receive it. I would return some props for props but it seems in every thread I really participate in its the same propping people lol
  11. first victims. Had a busted aluminum floor jack. heated up slow peeking in to see the slag at the top scooped off the slag to see some shiny molten aluminum poured into the mould. was curious why the riser channel didnt flow out...found out why later lol not perfect but no big. Im just happy to know I can melt some shit. found out why the riser channel didnt flow out.....stupid me put the mould on backwards hahaha. oh well the first time cant be perfect.
  12. the setup fired up to make sure all is good. Making some greensand for moulding. Play sand and bentonite clay. Some guy uses basic cat litter and grinds it down....not a bad idea but since I work with clay I have plenty of bentonite to go around. Not to mention when i found out that was an ingredient I was stoked to have something that I use in 3 different hobbies. Next go around Im going to buy sand blasting sand because its more fine of a sand. all mixed up. it compresses and holds shape with a clean break. some mould boxes turned something simple on the lathe for the test pour shape. halved for the moulds both sides of the mould with the channels cut out.
  13. Mentioned making a foundry furnace a few posts up. Well I did it today. Nothing from it yet, but I got progress shots. Been trying to document as best as I can lately with the intent of eventually dumping it all onto a blog or something to keep me busy and to keep my productivity flowing out. So all these guys make these furnaces using refractory cement, but I didnt feel like doing mine that way. The cement you have to wait to dry of course, but then you have to take it easy at first so you dont crack it. Plus you have to build a mould for it as well. I figured why go through the hassel of all that. Ceramic fiber is just as effective as refractory cement and it has a higher temp rating, 2300 degrees. It doesnt need to dry and you can get the flames roaring immediately. Not to mention if you get it thick enough it holds itself up, no mould or pour. So I bought 25 sq feet for 75 bucks. DOnt know why I went so big considering I used maybe 4 sq feet. Oh well Extra for when I need a bigger furnace. I actually plan on doing another for glass soon enough. Pics! i decapitated a propane tank for my furnace vessel need a port hole for your burner. I should of done a bigger diameter because my burner pipe was having a hard time with the oxygen and back pressure etc. Those who weld dont critique my welding, im a beginner, and all I have is a 90 amp flux core wire feed guy. its messy but hey it gets the job done and thats all I care about. the Kaowool. 2 inch thick 8# density 2300 degree tolerance. As you can see I used barely any. break time. Time to lubricate the mind... Finished product. I used some scrap to make the lid have a handle to swivel itself off the the side to get rid of having to pick it up and put it some where. I guess I could of also made a crucible and what not but I went ahead and bough a small 40oz one with a pour handle etc. it didnt cost much. This is the Reil Burner design. All hardware store stuff. Cheap. If anyone does this make sure you get black pipe, not galvanized. If galvanized get hot the coating burn off fumes are no bueno. If you cant find black steel parts you can always get the galv steel and drop it in some muratic acid, it will then eat off the zinc coating, then in baking soda water to neutralize the acid. dark pic lol
  14. Ok so some might not think this is "art" but it certainly is artistic. My mother for the past tens years has been making 3gs a month selling doll clothes that she makes for ebay...now etsy. Shes not one of the lunatics that plays with dolls etc. She sees it as straight business. Been featured in a magazine etc. Anyways, for quite some time she has followed this one dude Noel Cruz. He does Original One of a Kind (OOAK) repainted doll faces/bodies. His work is ridiculously good and he makes ridiculous money doing it. If you check just for the month of december hes already made 11 grand off repainting dolls. He mainly repaints movie celebrity stuff. So heres some of his stuff..... and my favorite....i dont even know who this guy is but the copy is so dope. Although next to the rest of the other celebs this one sold for the least amount. http://www.ncruz.com/
  15. Saw that chalk bored and I wasnt sure if I posted this. Did a quick bored for work. Nothing crazy but if paid for dinner lol Im not a fan of those chalk markers at all, hate em. Some thought I shouldnt leave "cock" separated from "tail" but I found it necessary lol. First go around it was more bold...oh well "
  16. its funny cause I havent yet reached the point of mastering anything and I have begun to find myself very intrigued with metal working. Well i must say that i have always been intrigued with welding and i recently bought a lil flux core wire feed welder for shits and giggles. Im happy with what it can do with basic metals. I stumbled across this guy on Youtube while cross checking a centrifugal casting arm I found on craigslist. http://myfordboy.blogspot.co.uk/p/metalcasting-dvds-for-sale-following.html thinking of duplicating his furnace idea but instead of using fire cement which is expensive I was going to use ceramic fiber blanket in place. The same concept is used for making DIY Raku Kilns that can reach 2500 degrees which is MORE than enough for base metals. My aim was to use it for glass to play around with but if I could cast simple metal things....WHY NOT!
  17. tuning into netflix now. did now always sunny is on there. ive heard many good things but never just sat and watched it from the start.
  18. Its just a lil point and shot i picked up for better shots of stuff I make. Canon Powershot Elph 110 Hs...16 megapixel. Its not the best but for a hundred bucks why not. just happy I have better photos lol Was getting tired of the itouch's grainy shots. You would think how nice the ipod touch and I phone are that the camera would be a lil better. My old flip phone Casio Exilm took better pics.
  19. I know I continually litter this thread with my capreses. Well its been a bad week and this is my comfort food. Plus i made the fresh mozz. No spiral this time I went with the stacked. Lovn this lil camera...
  20. Im looking at maybe having the palm springs california area as a new home to me within the future and when i think of it Ill be really happy to be on that end of the US to enjoy some awesome shows. maybe Im just missing the ones that role through the south east.....
  21. yeah that last one goes well with the lid. I tried to cut the piece so that I would get the red heart of the cedar like that. The more I extend my toys in my studio the more I want to incorporate multiple elements to create a whole. Mix Media has always been something Ive liked. I got a small welder, a lathe, a kiln, and plenty of tools in between. My focus has become to try and find a blend of glass, wood, metal, clay, and anything else I might see fit. Threw a leather hard cylinder of clay on the lathe today and made a small i guess what could be a candle holder....guess lathes arent just for wood. But yes i will be selling them on etsy soon enough. Ive been wanting to get a bunch of things completed so that when I finally put things back on my etsy shop i have a good amount to look at which also makes my store look better. If youre really interested in that one then Ill PM you before I put it on etsy and mark it reserved. Ive sold what I have posted on etsy but it hasnt been much in the last year so i would like to keep my feedback coming back positive.
  22. wish i could edit the post.... So i bought a lathe a while back. had some downed cedar in the back. cedar has red/purple hearts to the wood. I think goes well with the random reds of pitfiring. it fits everything besides the square pot. still nice i thing another another
  23. Protester thats awesome! So jealous. Id be willing to pay the shipping to try one of them. Narwhal was pretty dope I wont lie. Ive been on a anything but over hopped trip this past year. Ive been searching for different things that arent just punch in the face IPAs and lighter ales dont thrill me for the price. Imperial Stouts have been a favorite of mine for a good while and Narwhal fulfilled itself very well. Also to since i said I dont usually like Sierra Nevada. That was a delicious Malt Monster.
  24. Kegles and Walking Dead for 50million when it comes to Daryl.
  25. So whats the deal with Narwal? I remember catching a few posts a while back and today Im up in Whole Foods and I see a bunch of this stuff, made by sierra nevada right? It looks pretty good yet ive never liked most of what sierra nevada puts out. This is a make or break for me. Ima finish my whiskey ginger and move onto this.... I work out of Greenville SC so if anyone wants this stuff bad PM me and we can do a trade if you want...
