Health effects
Xylene affects the brain. High levels from exposure for short periods (14 days or less, these toys already fell off, if thats how long they've been painting) or long periods (more than 1 year, how about 10+ years in the game) can cause headaches (see Huff Weed), lack of muscle coordination, dizziness, confusion, and changes in one's sense of balance. Exposure of people to high levels of xylene for short periods can also cause irritation of the skin, eyes, nose, and throat; difficulty in breathing; problems with the lungs (see Smoker's Cough); delayed reaction time (like when you're smoking or drinking); memory difficulties; stomach discomfort (like afeter a long night of drinking); and possibly changes in the liver and kidneys (see Drinking). It can cause unconsciousness and even death at very high levels (see inhalants).
Besides occupational exposure, the principal pathway of human contact is via graf writing or soil contamination from leaking underground storage tanks containing petroleum products. Subsequently humans may come into contact with the compound by hanging out at graff events, live art shows, hoes may come in contact by hanging out with a lame toy that tags the hell out of his parents basement to be cool. Another common form of human exposure to xylene is in the use of certain types of pens, writing and drawing instruments, spray paint and art supplies, namely permanent pens and markers (see Sharpie, Magnum, Pilot).
