i think at this point most people need to be spoon fed what to think..or they're programmed to think certian ways about certain things... everyone's caught up with their daily life and struggles to really care about what's going on globally...or even locally...who's got time to think when you're stressing out about your credit card bills, and what celebrity is dating who...in a sense...media overload...people have so much more information to process these days so nothing really gets the required attention it deserves anymore... shit...you look at the 2000 presidential election...if some shit like that went down in 1968...there would be massive protests all over the country...there were hardly any in 2000..people would just be like "damn..that's fucked up..but what can i do about it"... as far as music and popular culture goes...it's been on a steady decline since the 80's...i don't think it's a mistake that hip hop breeds ignorance these days...back in the early 90's groups like public enemy and bdp had a socially concious and politically charged message..and were exposing people to that system of thought...now it seems like only the ignorant shit gets major label support...just look at how most kids act these days and you can't deny that it's major influence is the hip hop image and message that they're ingesting...i know people didn't act this rediculous or pride themselves on being thugged out during the native tongues era of hip hop..heh... people won't think a song or band is good unless they have a good video to accompany the song...image is more important than substance...no one listens anymore...
