hey brotha, nothing personal. it's just been going on too much lately and shouldn't be.
to further go on what FTB said, you can also use the search button and search a couple specific words. takes the same amount of effort as it does to ask a question in a thread, perhaps even less.
-
i know i've been laid back about this before but it's time for it to come to a stop....
QUIT POSTING MARKER QUESTIONS IN THE INK THREAD
there's another sticky for this... http://www.12ozprophet.com/forum/showthrea...5&goto=lastpost
but to answer your question (which has been asked and answered before), NO, do not take out the cotton filler in the pilot. i explain how to refill a pilot on the first post of the first page in this thread, so go there and read the description.

You won't find Nero or Marsh anywhere besides a Graff store.
Pilot ink, you should be able to find at an art store if they sell Pilots.
As for Fiebing's, http://www.fiebings.com/find.asp .

i think you are thinking about chumba, rinse.
-
its been discussed before
i'd recommend using the search function.
mix marsh with garvey.

taking too long to dry is not necessarily good. if you have some hard staining ink, but it takes a good 3 days to dry completely, than if someone tries to buff it in the first 72 hours the ink will be very easy to remove and will leave a much lighter ghost.

we've been through this before. if you really want those sexy foreign euro inks, your best bet is to find someone on here willing to trade for an american ink that they cannot get.
Originally posted by cracis there a recipe that includes amonia i have a whole bottle of it here and am not sure if its any good for anything
not that i know if. it doesn't really seem like it'd do much of anything at all.

dlokddlokd, you're mixing way too much shit. you have to understand, mixing a bunch of shitty inks doesn't necessarily make a good one.
i'd recommend mixing griffin and pilot instead. if you can't get the black griffin anywhere, just use a generic leather dye (but make sure it is alcohol based). you shouldn't have trouble finding pilot ink at an art store that sells pilot markers. any ways, pilot helps the shine and griffin helps the stain. peace
-
yes, that will work. however, you'd only be able to use it in a metal container because of the xylene, so you can't put it in a regular mop which is about the only thing bucket paint is good for since you can't just put them in a pilot or whatever. oil doesn't mix with alcohol.
-
it could also be fish oil. or just weird ink.
-
eraser nibs, all the way.
deordorant containers beat kiwis because they have that little horizontal edge that prevents the nib from slipping...
-
yeah baby, you should put your eraser nibs inside deodorant containers...
-
FUCK buying silver paints / inks. That shit is so cheap and easy to make, and it's a rewarding experience and you get to make all the measurements yourself; you can get way more paint for way less money. Just get Rusto bucket paint or One Shot or whatever brand your store stocks, thin it out with mineral spirits or turpentine or lacquer thinner, and add a little brake fluid.

That just goes to show you that I don't go to that site that often.
They are over priced and they sell crap.
Three, Four, or Two is all the same to me, it's bullshit...Lol
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
not so fast buddy... they may be a little spendy, but by buying from them you are supporting the owner(s) of 12ozprophet. and you gotta admit, their store is alot better than puregraffiti's (as well as the forum).
p.s. let's get this thread back on topic

CEOCAT, click http://www.12ozprophet.com/forum/editpost....&postid=1608942 and edit that shit.
OMEN, chapstick markers usually give out 5-10 good tags, depending on the surface you're hitting of course. that said, theyre nice because they're so small but not that practical. they would be a good idea for transit though... small and easy to conceal.

in that case you should order one off the internet. those fuckers are strong and built to last ;)
-
i think a very nice recipe would be garvey, nero and marsh. garvey stains the metals hard, nero ghosts on plastic and marsh is similar (though slightly stronger) to pilot and adds opaqueness and shines to the mix. i'd like to get some nero soon and try that shit out.
halfblu, you can't really "take" the ink out of a pilot. you could put towels on the nib and cotton filler and let it absorb the ink but there will always be some left. your best bet is just to use a pilot until it dries up and than refill it with your own ink.

REPLY 1000
damn, this thread has come along ways since i first started it in december.

i think you may be a little paranoid. let's examine a much more obvious medium preferred by writers: spray paint. you'd think the stores would wise up to people that buy 30 cans a week, every week. they don't. writers use that for things it wasn't meant to be used for, too. and you have to deal with a clerk in person instead of on a website by email.
another thing, garvey is a small company. they need all the money they can get.
and: don't you think marsh would wise up to the fact that they sell their inks to stores like urbandesignz.com and urbandesignz than sells it to you for the purpose of vandalism? i really don't think they care, as long as they get the cash.
it's capitalism B

DontBeAmenis, nothing but respect that you actually read all 25 pages. most people on here just skip reading and skip the search button, and ask a question that's been asked countless times before. there's so much knowledge in this thread, you probably learned a lot more than you knew before reading.
apparently, the machine that makes mini and ultra wides has had a malfunction and it is no longer able to make mini wides anymore (but still ultra's). since the company that owns it is small, it can't afford to replace the machine. this is from what i have heard. the new style of nibs are most likely bootlegs. if you want to get powerstain ink, your best off with finding someone on here from europe who is able to access it and willing to trade for one of our america-only inks. i know there is a couple websites out there that sell it but i'm puzzled as to whether they're willing to ship to the u.s. none of them say they do.
i don't have all city but i've looked through it at the book store. great book, nice interviews and such.
stay up.

i don't undertsand why you'd even want to mix blue garvey and blue pilot. pilot is a weaker ink and they're both of the same color. if anything, mix black marsh with garvey.
-
I just added a mix of 3/4 Garvey and 1/4 Marsh into an emptied out Zig, the kind that are about as fat as a UniPaint (not the ones that are similar to an OTR). I love the color of it, it's a little darker and shinier than regular Garvey but still nice. And the flow... God damn. The flow is near perfect, shit flows so nice. It's a valve type marker; if you press down on the nib for more than a second or two, Garvey just flows right through as if there's no nib in place and makes a big mess. Either way the nib gets completely saturated in ink. Garvey and Marsh go perfect with each other.
-
yes garvey will mix with brake fluid.
apparently the hardest staining colors tend to be black, purple, blue and deep red.
-
omen dont worry, i know exactly what you mean. as newschoolers we call pretty much anything that drips (like a kiwi) or anything that is from a homemade container (like chapstick) a mop. i will agree with you, those kiwi mops are bullshit. the nibs aren't durable at all.
a step up from kiwi's are the window chalkers / face paint mops. they don't have that same bullshit nib as the kiwis.
http://img7.photobucket.com/albums/v18/rubbishheap/window003.jpg'>
the nib takes a little more abuse, the drips are easier to control, and the mop is nice and cheap - only a dollar. not even worth racking.
obviously at the top of the list is those deodorant mops with the felt tip nib. however, you should at least note that the face paint mops are better than those bull shit kiwis
-
i've never boiled ink myself, but it seems like it may get thicker because the alcohol could boil out. either way i'm sure it'd make for some pretty noxious fumes. be careful and use common sense. that pans gonna be ruined at the end of it.
by the way, thicker ink doesn't necessarily mean a leak-proof mop. are you using kiwis? if so, i'd suggest switching to a bingo dabber / face paint marker / window chalker (all found at a good dollar store). those things are practically leak proof - the cap is screw on, screw off, and i've never had a problem with them leaking in my pocket. i don't use kiwis anymore because i've had those things leak in my pocket before and the nib is less sturdy. those dollar store mop's nibs are a little stronger than kiwis but they'll eventuaully tear too - either way, they only cost a dollar so it's not even worth racking in my mind - you can get 5 mops for 5 bucks, enough to last for a little while.

paint thinner or turps would not do shit for garvey . why would you even think about adding that shit? garvey is alcohol based and paint thinner / turps are oil based - all they would do is fuck everything up because they do not mix.
