I am pretty impressed by the project, although I want to hesitate calling it art. but defining art has never been easy. I'm not a visual artist per se, but I moved to new york to immerse myself in an artistic environment nonetheless. Last week, a couple hundred participants gathered in Wash Sq park and waited for the organizer to put his annual plan into action. Participants were encouraged to bring their boombox or to request, by email, a reservation for one of the organizer's many. At 7pm on a saturday, the organizer distributed cassette tapes, each with the sole instrumentation of 1 musical instrument. All boombox couriers received their tape and cued it by his orders. The procession then led to Tompkins Sq park. I spectated. I hard xlyophones, and triangles, and odd sounds in general. It was all pleasant ambient classical-ish instrumentation. I wouldn't call it xmasy because it didn't hold form to the established tunes of said genre. Nonetheless, the procession was phenomenal.
