  1. Get the Glock in 10mm or .40 S&W ...

     

    10mm is definitely beast.

    a few comments though. ralphy is talking about carrying for possible 'sketchy' times in the near future.

    .40 is the most used caliber by LE. lots of ammo around. .45 is also the way to go. if money is an issue, be advised .45 is usually cheaper than .40. remember, if you cant feed it, it will do you no good.

     

    first handgun you are probably better off looking for a side arm you can conceal but is big enough to give you decent accuracy, as opposed to a .38 snub nose for instance. a glock 23 is a great choice, or a 30. private sales are not hard to come by in gun friendly states. although, id rather have either of the above, if a private sale 17 came up cheap, i'd hop on it.

  2. these look like they have a ton of custom options...and pretty decent baseline price.

     

    great starting place.

    all you really need is an extended mag release and it will run like champ. get a bunch of mags, even factory mags these days dont last that long. dont use aftermarket mags at all, they suck.

     

    if you want to customize, i recommend a hogue stock, a bull barrel of some sort will greatly improve accuracy.

  3. what would be a good rifle to start with?

     

    i have only handgun and shotgun experience....

     

    the crazier things get politically the more i realize that exercising our right to bare arms is important.

     

    i would like something that will have some good range, affordable and will be pretty easy for a beginner.

     

    im a believer in buy once, cry once.

    im a fan of the AR platform.

    i would definitely not ruling out an AK platform, but by the time i modify it to do what i need it to do, im at the cost of an AR15.

     

    if i were to buy one rifle to cover the most bases, i'd buy something in .308. m14 variant, FAL, AR platform, etc.

     

    there isnt much you couldnt do with a .308 battle rifle of some sort, a 18" 12g, and a side arm.

    but all kidding a side, i definitely dont want to get shot with a 9mm.

  5. anyone ever go through huge plateaus of not progressing in max weight? be it for chest (like regular bench presses) or squats, arm stuff, or whatever really. i notice results in pretty much all weight lifting exercises i do for each area, but the one thing that i really haven't brought my max weight up in way too long is regular flat bench pressing. the shits wack and discouraging

     

    bench is the slowest progressing exercise of the big lifts for sure.

     

    where are you failing? bottom, top, middle? im weakest off the chest, and cambered bar presses have really helped me. floor presses and board presses also fix sticking points. this is assuming you arent over training, are going all out, etc.

    i'll agree a first handgun should probably be a glock or something similar, but there is nothing wrong with a 1911 as long as you arent an idiot or a child and dont mind taking care of it. in fact i feel much 'safer' carrying a 1911 cocked and locked than a glock. i like the mechanical safety and light trigger pull. but im definitely a glock fan as well.

    you may want to move into a more hypertrophy/body building sort of routine then.

    strength training isnt the BEST way to get looking good. size/definition comes as a side effect to moving big weight. and strength comes as a side effect to working out to get big.

     

    the routine i favor sort of incorporates both training philosophies. i want to get strong, but im also not that huge of a dude, nor do i want to be 250 lbs either. so by doing work sets sort of like this:

     

    bench

    warm up

    bar x 30

    95 x 15

    135 x 12

    185 x 8

    200 x 6

    225 x 4

     

    you'll get some good repetition work in, and get stronger. which will make you be able to do more reps in your hypertrophy and/or fat burning rep range.

     

    there is a big difference between doing 5 reps and doing 20. when you are doing 20 reps, you are breaking down serious muscle, going for endurance, and feeling a burn. when you do 1-5 reps, you arent going to have a pump anything like doing 20 reps. its the reason why you see power lifters who are benching 500-800 lbs hardly ever doing any sets above 5 reps and they are just big thick guys, usually high body fat. more weight=more strength. in general. and you never see body builders like jay cutler or *insert hot new body building dude here * doing a lot of 3RM or 1RM work. they wants to get big, not lift the most weight.

     

     

    also, if you are struggling with losing body fat and are already doing long cardio sessions, i'd recommend throwing in some serious barbell, dumb bell/kettlebell, body weight complexes as finishers. as well as throwing in lots of HIIT, tabata type jump rope work, etc if you arent already.

    i would do the complexes in waves. finish your weight lifting. then do say 2 sets of the complex of your choice 2 times a week the first week. next week, do 3 sets, with shorter rest time. next week, 4 sets, shorter rest time. try to go to five if you can, then change the complex to another. if doing a barbell complex on say monday and friday, throw in a body weight complex, timed mile runs or things like 100 push ups in fastest time possible, 100 lunges in fastest time possible, 50 chins in a set amount of time, on wednesday

  9. If 20 reps of a low weights feels harder to you than 5 reps of a heavy weight, your heavy weight is not heavy enough.

    You should be noticeably taxed after a heavy set of squats, deadlifts, rows or bench presses.

     

    i've gotta agree with that.

     

    last weekend my little bro was doing squats. he had me spot him while he did his 'max effort' for 3 reps (3RM). after watching him do 3 easy, i was like, 'keep going!' he ended up doing 7 on what he thought was his 3RM. we threw 50 pounds on the bar and he then failed @ 3.

     

    i'd recommend doing your main lift of the day working up to final set of 5-6 reps or under, balls to the wall, and all other assistance stuff with higher reps. 12-20/25 depending on what you are doing. and sounds like you just need to keep losing weight to see what you have under your belly fat. unless you carry a naturally low body fat, you generally have to lose an ASS load of weight to see abs. weighted abs of all kinds will also make sure they pop. but this is coming from a guy who has had true visible abs only for 1 summer in his entire life. im more worried about getting strong than keeping my body fat under 10%

  10. switch up your routines. don't do the same exercises every time you work out chest. but also you don't have to be "really sore" the next day to know you had a good workout.

     

     

    i tweaked my back out a few days ago doing squats, i woulda been fine if i stuck to my normal 4 sets of 10-12 but i added in a 5th set for whatever reason and BAM. maybe i won't forget a belt next time..

    switch exercises. switch rep/weight/set schemes, etc. if normally doing 3 sets of 8, do 5 sets of 5 or 5 sets of 15. or work up to a 3 rep max or 1 rep max. its gotta be TRUE 1RM or 3RM otherwise you are just doing 1 rep of light weight.

     

    if doing flat bench for main lift, try floor presses, or inclines. close grip, wide grip. dont forget stuff like tricep hell and pin presses/lock outs

    i just wanted it to be known i stepped into the debate hardcore when i was negapropped for a true statement, that the negapropper admitted was true. namely, AR's are more accurate than AK's.

     

    it just seems silly to start one of the biggest debates in the gun world, negaprop someone then get mad when that person responds and refutes all the points that person made. when a can of worms gets opened, you get responses. its just how it is.

  12. the debate is AK vs AR. dont question why its ak vs ar. it just fucking is. if youre not going to pick either one the STAY THE FUCK OUT OF THE DEBATE. its as simple as that. its not AK Vs M1 its not AR vs M14 its AK Vs AR. thats the debate if you dont like it start youre own debate and stay out of this one. youre a typical american. getting your nose in other peoples business when its uncalled for.

     

    hahaha, first off you negapropped me on a comment i made that had nothing at all to do with you or your specific view. a simple comment that is without a doubt true... that the AK is not as accurate as the AR platform nor as versatile. specifically in regards to adding high quality accessories and attachments with ease. without your negapropping, i had no intention of getting into the debate further in the first place. 'getting my nose in other peoples business when its uncalled for?' i thought this was the got damn gun thread where people ask questions and people talk shit about other peoples preferences.

     

    if i have to choose between an ak and an AR, i'll take AR. i like quality. i like accuracy. i dont mind cleaning a weapon. but limiting the debate between these two weapons is silly.... because they are both for specific limited purposes. its like trying to limit an election between a republican and a democrat. the AK people always try to say that an AK can do anything, which it cant. and i fully acknowledge the AR cant do everything. im merely saying if i was looking for the most all purpose rifle, i'd choose a battle rifle of some sort.

     

    and yes, i own an AR 15 platform and i do not own an AK platform. i clean my weapon, i've never had a malfunction, i can easily adapt this system to any need that this style weapon can handle. when i need more power, i pull out something bigger.
