...i have two digital camcorders...a sony digital 8mm...and a samsung dvc...i haven't used my digital 8 since i got the dvc...they're definately the way to go...however, the digital 8 has a different look to it than dvc, for some shots it does look better...it's nice to have both to use but definately not essential...i would recomend the cannon that key posted for a good all purpose home camera, they are really good...and probably the best you can buy for around $500... ...other things to look for besides zoom would be lux rating, aperature and frames per second capabilities...also look at how much control you can assert over the camera while filming, for example, with my dvc i can select frame rates and aperature settings in dividually or as a particular set that the camera then uses to it's best judgement automatically...if this doesn't make sense i can explain more... ...and key...i hate you for getting to use those dope ass cameras everyday...

...i base my prices off of galleries...they have people there that will tell you how much they think it should be sold for, it's in their best interest to sell if for the highest price as well as yours...then if i'm selling similar work on my own to collectors i use the price established by my most recent sales as a guide...cut a little to reflect not having to pay the gallery (...standard gallery cut is 30%...big name gallerys will take 50 or more)...if people are intersted in buying multiple pieces it's usually in your interest to cut a deal for them...and definately cut deals for people with established collections, just being able to put that on your resume later will get you more and bigger sales in the future...

...if you haven't already, you should read marshal mcluen (sp?)...he wrote a lot about how television was going to completely change the way people process information...he did most of his writing in the fifties, before television even became really big...also the new rage in philosophy is linguistics (...well it might not be that new...it's been the rage since the seventies...but it takes a long time for philosophy to change...), the basic idea being that our thoughts are driven mostly by our language (...if there isn't a word for it you can't think it)...i can't think of any one off my head to specifically recomend, but there is lots of very interesting stuff out there... ...good rant...
