  1. i did races... i did races on friday was a prolog/TT thing. it was 2 miles first mile false flat last mile was one hell of a climb most of been an average of 12 to 14% grade. i did it in 10:16 3rd over all for the cat 3/4's only 9 seconds off from first place. i was pretty stoked i felt really strong but after i finished i have never felt so horrible in my life i thought i was going to pass out and throw up.. i think i left all my energy on the course which was good. my average HR was 192 and my max was 201. today was a road race 5.5mile laps we did 7 about two laps in i moved up to the front, top 15 or so and just hung in there. a group of about 8 got off the frount while i was in the back somethime. on the third lap i went for my own break but since i was 3rd over all i was reeled in quickly i stayed in the top 10 for the rest of the race busting my ass off to make sure the two infront of me in the over all standings didn't get away on a break. with 2 laps left we caught the 8 riders and the group was back together. after a number of faled attemps to get off the front the group was all together going into the finish i just sucked my balls up and stuck on someones wheel and didn't let go. i just stayed near the front and didn't really sprint since we were already going32ish and finished in 11th place which i can't complain about at all. i played an active roll in the race and felt really good. the 11th place was good enough to give me 5th over all for the two days combined, which im pretty stoked about. i won some money and did well. next race is a crit on sat. and then it's off to Fitchburg MA for the fitchburg stage race. is anyone else racing?
  2. i must be doing something wrong if steve isnt' riding and he's getting stronger... man 3 hours on the trainer yesterday sucks big ones... it's been raining like crazy lately.. anyways good stuff on racing.. steve and joker
  3. had and up hill timetrail yesterday. about 7miles long about 5.5miles of climbing pretty tough... but i prevailed i legs were really hurting and i thought about dropping out about 2mles in but my club was putting it on so i figured i had to finish... ive done this climb probably 5 time before... with about a mile left in the climb i was saving some of my energy for the last half mle.... but there was no last half mile the finish was before the actually top of the climb. all these times that i have ridden the climb i have gone up another level to the top... well they decided to have the finish before the actual top (if that makes any sense) but the finish came up on me and i wasn't even tired. well all in all i finished 2nd in the cat 3's and had the 5th fastest time of the day.. i beat all the cat. 1's and 2's with a time of 37:02... but i think if i had known where the the finish was i could of taken 30 sec. off my time but oh well the kid who beat me in the 3's had the fastest time of the day with 35:30 okay im done ridehard
  4. man well i guess ihave to say this.... b/c i got lapped i was blacked flagged from the crit... i feel like a loser oh well devlush it's okay i went to pier 39 and stuff and mear (sp) woods in san fran nice place there okaythe road race the course was unbelieveably hard it was a 10 mile loop with a killer 1.5mile climb in there with another 3 mile gradual climb a few miles after it. well i had another good start going into the race in the top 20 but on the first 45mph down hill my bike for some reason started to shake on me and go all over the place, i really thought i was a goner with 100 riders going down with me. but luckly i grabed the toptube with my legs and held it tight and slowed down but it continued to shake so i move to the left side of the pack and had to slow down to where it stopped... by this time i was dead last on the pack so we go through some other windy roads and i try to make my way back to front but i didn't get too far. as we come to the climb i had to work my way all the way through the pack litrually pushing riders out of the way i made my back up but with the cost of more energy then i would have liked to use the pack split emedially after the climb on the first lap. we come around the start finish and im still with the leaders about 40 in the pack.. but im bairly hanging on. the second time up the climb i fell off the pace and didn't get back one but i wasnt the only one so i road with a group of 15 other riders and we never caught up with the leaders. so i hung with them for the next 3 laps and on the 6th time up the climb i fell off the pace... inew it was going to happen my fitness for races just stops at 65miles i guess i really should of done more longer rides in the preseason. but none the less i just told my self i was going to finish so i road the rest of the race solo... i finished 42nd out of a 100+ field with only about 60 riders finishing. just finishing was good for me... i have a lot of work to do and im not going to be done with school for another 3-4 years so i have some time... but all in all it was great to be a part of it and meet all new people..
  5. well... i learned a lot the crit was on treasure island... flat as can be with 6 turns i had a great start (but didn't last too long) oh and this was my 5th crit ive ever done. so i just tried to stay on peoples wheels but that didn't work the pace was unbelieveably fast 28-31mph pace. i stayed on the pack for about 20minutes. i guess i just don't have the strength that these guys have, i was sprinting as fast as i could to stay on the back of the pack but people just kept on passing me and finally i got spit off the back and road with one other guy for a bit and then the chase group of about 20 riders but we just didn't go fast enough and we got caught at about 35minutes into the crit. the crit was 70minutes long the guys i raced against are just at a different level then me but of the 100 or so that started only 37 finished, so i wasn't the only one that got dropped. i'll type up the roadrace tomorrow alk.. nice to see your back
  6. joker... good job on the placing... i really wish we had a local crit series around here b/c i really need to get better at them and they are great for training anyway you need to devise a system where you can ride the trainer and paint at the same time.... now that's multitasking.. best of luck with the art shows.. have one on the east coast!
  7. hello all.. ive been too busy to write up a race report from last sat. but i was leading the pack for the last 30 miles of the race.. trying for breaks and such only to get forced off the road on the last turn about .8 miles to the finish line... i worked my ass off to bridge back up the frount of the race but only to finish with nothing left in my legs and a 23rd out of 80riders and a 14th out of the cat 3's... oh well my legs felt amazing tho and i signed up for one of those online coaches... i know i think they are lame but i figure if i am going to put so much time and effort into i mine as well do it right... i signed up at this one... www.trainright.com and i will be in california in 2 days... im so excited.. if you go to the race website.. http://www.calcycling.org/nationals/courses.php they have a video of the road race... it fits my climbing ability perfictally... i will have a great write up when i get back devlush any one else in san fran holla and we can meet up...
  8. now that is a quality write up... loved it! keep racing your time will come. i'll be racing this weekend
  9. man that sounds like my kind of race... i got excited reading it just thinking about climbing... ive got another uphill TT may 17th 7.7miles all but the first half mile climbing
  10. http://www.calcycling.org/nationals/courses.php that's where the crit is... it's on may 9th... devlush or dibs you should try to get out and see the race.... i am not a crit rider by any means if i can stay in it for half the race i'll be happy.
  11. jokster, hmm it really depends on where the climb is in relation to the finish. the uphill TT i did was all up hill. if it's at the end then i'd say try not to go latic before the climb a climb that long with that steep of a grade will hurt if have to climb it with legs full of the acid. bring your 27 and don't run a disc and pace your self save some for the top and hammer in the steap sections... and as i was doing my mine my dad was yelling at me "if youre not suffering youre not working hard enough!"
  12. haha that would be great... devlush needs to be out there too. i raced on sat. it was horrible i got dropped by the pack chased for a long ways.. but what can you do, you can't peek everyweekend.
  13. im glad to see that everyone is out racing... it's finally spring here..and im loving it and with only 2 more weeks of class summer for me is just around the corner with nothing to do but ride my bike and work... im going to san fran and berkely cali for collegiate road nationals.. it'll be my first time on the west coast... i can't wait
  14. there was some major suffering that went on.... i was happy to finish i ended up 11th out of 35. the race was 66 miles long with "the wall" a steep steep steep climb we had to go up 6 times.... then today was a 25K timetrial.. i didn't stick around for results i'll try to get some pictures up in a few days only 2 weeks of classes and then exams.. and im done... i can't wait
  15. joker good stuff... atleast you went for the break and now you know what you need to work on. just think if you started the break 300meters later. cycling is a crap shoot esp. crits i raced last weekend in morganstown west virginia i did the collegaite mens A race 66 miles. i felt good i did a bit to much work early in the race and finished up 11th out of 28starters. my result wasn't great nor was it bad, im just kinda happy that im able to finish these longer races this early in the season on suday was a 4mile look ciurit race 6 laps.. two guys broke away off the gun and road half the race alone till one died out and the other guy soloed the second half of the race. i just stayed in the pack as "pack fill" and didn't do much work but on the last lap i worked my way up to the front of the pack and on the last hill before the last turn i was right in front and going around the last turn i was 4th in line it was a hundred yards uphill to the finish nothing too steep but i stuck it out and didn't pass or all anyone to pass me so i ended 5th. pretty happy with the result. im leaving tomorrow to go to virginia tech for a the hardest road race yet and an ultra fast timetrial on sunday. i qualified for collegaite nationals out in berkley CA, as long as i can get one of my finals moved im heading out there. may 9th - 12
  16. yesterday i did the uva up hill TT climb was about 4miles long but the first mile was a false flat so the average grade was about 6% but if you take out the false flat the last 3 miles was an average grade of 15% with the steepest section being 18% grade it was a sufferfest.. luckly the faster you went up the less suffering. i ended up getting 2nd loosing to first place by 50sec. and third place was some 20sec. behind me my time being 23:21. it was great tho and the climb was to wintergreen ski resort place. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid57/pe3305cdefd3b005c95bc6eaaf70a745e/fc6bef0c.jpg'> the start http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid57/p473eb5695c8afafecb272145b559a85f/fc6bef00.jpg'> http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid57/p73ed3e4289fe6b0c4b71715391aba516/fc6bef03.jpg'> there is a guy way in the back.. he started 30 sec. up on me i caught him a mile and half into the race. i also caught my 1.5min. man too http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid57/pd0a9d22f5775caa7353263e687ec1bd8/fc6bef04.jpg'> thats me in the way back... the guy in front started a minute up on me http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid57/pa8bb6e807e23b1f1fa88d5ef8c792d37/fc6bef08.jpg'> i was suppose to race today.. but for some reason virginia decided to smoke crack this morning and it started to snow... WTF it's the last day of march. so at 10am when i was suppose to be racing there was 2inches of snow on the ground.. next weekend i'll be in west va... i love it more mountains...
  17. yeah i wasn't able to make it to the any of the TT.. are you doing the jeff cup this weekend?
  18. first race of the season.... in elkridge md. a five mile loop with a nice gradual with a nice steap part in the climb... i raced mens collegait A's last year i did the B's it was beutiful day sun was shinning. about 30 guys in my race 60miles long 12laps raced started off pretty easy pace i was catching up talking to a few riders from last year the first two laps were nothing hard i stayed in the frount half come the third lap the pace starts to pick up a bit we get the train moving everyones taking turns pulling. come the 4th time up the hill someone has the great idea of taking off he and 3 others got a 15 sec gap then came me and then 15sec behind me was other rider i slowed a bit to let the other bridge up with me and together we pulled like animals for 3/4th a lap we didn't really make up that much time. 2 other riders bridged up with us and together we worked it and caught up to the other riders ahead. when we merged together the pack was pretty much blown apart. with still having 7laps to go we slowed the pace up a bit and a few others who were chasing caught up making the lead group around 12 riders. we went about a lap and half at a nice pace nothing too hard. we slowly picked the pace back up. with three laps to go i was sitting comfortably in the group untill chris herby (who has been dominating the races) decided to blow the pack up again on the 3rd time up the hill. luckly i was right on this wheel when he did so. but his strength proved to be too great for mine and he and another rider got a good 10sec. gap on me. 3 other riders bridged up with me and we chased and chased and chased but the they kept pulling away from us on the second to last time up the hill the other riders in my 4 proved to be stronger then me and got a gap on me. so i said forget it and had nothing left in my legs and let them go on ahead. so i put myself in timetrail mode and soloed it the last lap and half and finished up 6th... the next riders to finish was a group of 4 about 3 min. back im really happy with my fitness level and how the race went.. i averaged 23.5mph... haven't done that in a long time...
