Honestly, the fact there were charges/consequences here satisfies my expectations. Realistically there are a million ways a person can have an accidental discharge. There's always some level of negligence involved in it so there needs to be some sort of legal, and financial ramifications. As I've said I don't think there was any pre meditated shit where she pretends to say taser just for plausible deniability, she really did fuck it up, and isn't the first officer to do so. Very common mistake.3 points

Been seeing that around a lot today. The only thing i’ll say about it is that i imagine after the Potter incident, they were probably trying to be on extra good behavior. I’m sure many police departments had a huddle and a chat about not killing mother fuckers for at least a week.2 points

I disliked the foo fighters when I first heard them and have not given them a second thought since. The museum has interactive computer stations, they should incorporate that content into their website. I went to see Mavis Staples when she was honored or inducted or whatever. The show was a little off and I think half the attendees were associated with the hall or the bank. But whatever, getting worked up about it is silly. A bit bizarre that Ozzy would say that industry people have never purchased a ticket or album.2 points

These domestic oil companies aren't exactly operating locally, they're multinational. They'll ship/transport it to the ports with the highest prices globally if the price difference covers the cost of delivery. There's no escaping the global market because there's not really "our oil", or "their oil" in that sense. For strategic reasons it pays for the government to have a source to feed it's military during war, but that doesn't really make a difference on the citizen level. Boils down to free market economics, and who's willing & able to pay more. The only advantage we have as a local economy to domestic production of petroleum are the decreased shipping costs. These private companies producing oil aren't nationalized companies, and are in it for maximum profit just like everyone else. Restricting their markets, and nationalizing them is Socialist at best.1 point

I don't know enough about what all got backed up in the suez to say for sure but I would imagine a delay would artificially drive price high as demand was artificially driven high. I could be really wrong but i think we could use the gasoline we have here locally in USA for some weeks before we absolutely needed more oil to be refined. What I mean by that is to question whether or not the downtime in this instance justified a price increase.1 point

I feel like Foo Fighters are a band who successfully rose to stardom by a large group of people who think they’re just ok. I honestly don’t know anyone who listens to them regularly or ever has.1 point

That's pretty fresh. Slash shreds, but Billy Gibbons has some pretty tough riffs, and was Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitar player. I thought I was going to be in unpopular opinion on the Foo Fighters as I'm not crazy about them either. I can see Dave Grohl is talented and seemingly a cool guy, I'm just not moved that way by their music. However, I have found them to be a pretty good cover band and have definitely enjoyed a few youtube vids of them rocking other people's songs.1 point

Watched slash, ZZ Top, and RHCP all jam together for hours which was pretty cool. Beastie Boys got inducted that same year, but they didn’t show. I work in production, so I dont get awed by celebrity anymore. But some Moments like that one are pretty fun to witness.1 point

In some ways I guess it's better they went out doing something they enjoyed, but overall I think intent is inconsequential when it comes to irreversible harm. If someone "unintentionally" shoots a person out of negligence, it makes no difference on the real world consequences. Stuffing anything up your ass without a broad base will result in a hospital visit, and is gross negligence (no pun intended).I'd gain zero comfort knowing the shooter was doing something as ridiculous as stuffing a rifle up their ass backwards and having an accidental discharge if they took out one of my family members. Focusing on the emotional factor of something that can't be proven/disproven 100%, and assigning the priority to "intent" for any manner of safety neglects logic. Traffic rules save lives, building codes save lives and if they were designed to focus on a driver's/builders intent they wouldn't work. Bottom line is emotionally based design isn't valid, especially when compared to logic as a the primary consideration for designing safety measures.1 point
