  3. From what I have seen and experienced in Arizona @Schnitzelcrossing near border towns is fairly easy. For people with legit papers/passport etc For sure people do it like you said for prescriptions and dental, one of my boys got his whole grille smashed with a brick and now has some Hollywood type veneers courtesy of a dentist in Mexico. I think there are American dentists that operate in both locations etc. That being said - the cartel shit is real and people need to be aware of what they are doing and how they are operating.

  5. Howdy partners. After a lot of deliberation, wifey and I have decided that there is not much of a promising future here for us. We make okay money but buying a house here (Miami) is some bullshit. $350k gets you a shithole in Little Haiti with bars on the windows and a toilet that somehow migrated out of the bathroom and into the yard. We both have jobs here, I work in IT and she does clinical research. Miami is pretty famous for low wages, high rent, and we definitely feel it. It's no secret that we'd both make more elsewhere. We have been tossing around the idea of moving for a while but now we have made the decision to be outta here when our lease is up (end of September, but might need a little more time). We tossed around a few cities but Houston seems to have what we are looking for. I'm not a fan of the ridiculous amount of sprawl, but the fact that you can buy a house cheap, and there seems to be plenty of jobs (good paying jobs, at that, more than we'd make here fo sho) is very attractive. I have been doing some research and it seems that all of the negatives that people complain about, I'm already dealing with here. Heat and humidity... yeah, Florida. Bugs... yeah, Florida. Traffic, yeah... not only is there a lot of traffic here, you have all kinds of Mad Max shit. People stopping on the expressway because they miss their exit, making left turns from the right lane, etc. We're both pretty in the middle politically. We're both pretty socially liberal... legalize weed, pro-choice, let the homos do what they want, etc. But also, don't tax the shit out of me, don't touch my guns, etc. Live and let live I guess. It seems that this city might be a pretty good fit because it has a healthy mix of both sides, plus you know, cheap housing and a lot of good paying jobs. Also the ability to speak Spanish is something I care about, I feel if I go too long without using my Spanish I start forgetting mis palabras and I do a lot of "ehh... mmm... me ... me duele la pinga?" So what do you guys think? I know we have a few Texans here, hopefully I can trigger @Dirty_habiT by telling him I wanna move over there, buy a Prius, shop at Whole Foods and vote in socialism. Didn't DAO move to Texas too?

  6. I suppose there's some panicking. Years ago I was talking with someone who worked on a ranch in a boarder town. Its a little different when you own land on boarder towns. So basically even though its your land you have to be careful what you stumble accross. The cartels have their mules make drops at night and it doesn't matter who's land cartels are gonna use your land to do business rather you like it or not. So when you're out working on your land, checking things out, it isn't common to come across bundles of whatever. You leave those bundles alone because they have people watching and knowing who picks up what. Then of course there's all the other everyday things to attend to amd worry about.

  9. Fat Ralphy said exactly what I was going to say basically. Yes, you can traverse the border but if you don't pass for Mexican and poor, you are potentially making yourself a target. It's not a game, it's not some bullshit to be racist or keep people from living a better life. If you life in El Paso, you WILL know and appreciate EXACTLY why there should be a giant fucking wall all the way across that border of the USA. Don't even need to get into the politics, just go live in a border town if you don't believe. You could live fat there if you were smart/quiet about your money. I am unsure about what you could bring back from the border in terms of drugs/booze. I think it's probably a poor decision considering you risk sitting in Mexican jail. I don't know anyone from El Paso, but it's a place in Texas where the cost of living probably isn't high. The other nice thing about Texas is that if you keep to yourself and don't make a big scene about what you do, people generally do the same. Way too many people these days make it their business to worry about what someone else is doing.... when it's painfully obvious they have neglected to worry about themselves. @Schnitzel- the people that are looking to separate people from money stretch well beyond the border towns btw. You could get fucked up real easy wandering around in the wrong side of San Antonio -- and it's hours past the Mexico border.

  10. Really need pardons for Assange, Snowden, and Ulbricht. Living proof the system is tyrannical. Seeing Snowden just had a kid recently almost made me tear up no lie, so glad they never got him. If we were smart, he'd be brought back ASAP, and put in charge of infosec so we can purge the systemic constitutional abuses and procedures. I know that will never happen, just like those pardons will never happen. People on both sides just really hate freedom.

  14. When birds fly into the window and die I'll leave them out by the trail cam to see who claims them. Not sure what happened here, this deer seems to toss this woodpecker aside and then either eats it or rubs the scent. Another deer came along and appeared to do the same.

  15. How you like them maggots? Kind of interesting, I had passed this little farm building before and thought it smelled like a combo of sewage and a brewery. Caught a dude there the other day. He's using compost and used brewer's yeast to grow black fly maggots, which are then fed to the chickens. It uses people's discarded table scraps, the chickens devour the maggots, and they're a high source of protein and generally better for the chickens then conventional feed. He's trying to expand this so that anyone can come get some if they keep chickens.

  18. Back in the day I used to do a lot of residential moves as a contractor driving for a van line. Texas by far has some of the nicest people on earth, I used to joke with them about it because I used to say "the only reason your so down to earth is because everyone is packing heat in Texas". They would be like like "isn't everyone packing heat in Chicago?" Yeah you got me there lol Also it's the only place where the people we were moving actually helped out and on top of that we ended the day with some juicy steaks and good beer. They just get to work in that state. I just Hope the exodus from Cali doesn't ruin that old school Texas hospitality
