Thing is that that this fucks up their business model. Its not just as simple as them selling ad space and juggling a formula of 1 ad for every xx posts... First of all buy curating feeds, they're capitalizing on the behavior patterns of addiction. Can't recall what thread it was where someone posted one of the co-founders (I think of Facebook) discussing this and all of us sort of in awe that nobody at Facebook has been thrown in jail yet (maybe someone who remembers the video can repost it here). Further, it also disguises the "fatigue" part of whats happening. Most people follow a ton of people so by remixing the feed, it disguises that most people aren't posting all that often anymore. Your feed feels new each time, because it keeps remixing the it each time. This allows it to be more compelling as you get the feeling your seeing what's new, but in reality its only new to you and often was posted hours or days ago. This gets mixed in with posts that are genuinely new to leave you with the overall feeling that its popping. Meanwhile, a lot of people are given priority and these are the accounts that are strategic to Instagrams growth, whether its a celebrity account that helps expand the base or a commercial account that is putting money into sponsored posts and playin the game the way Instagram wants it played. Those not following so many people or the power users that are spending more time looking at their feed than there is followed content to fill . it, will then note that more and more "explore" posts and recommendations start showing up, presumably so they follow more accounts, which in turn keeps the hamster wheel turning. If you show posts chronologically, it literally fucks up the model and accelerates the decline of the platform.1 point

I know its fairly simple to add a shortcut, but maybe post a little tutorial or some screen shots or something for the uninitiated? I kept going back and forth about deleting my personal account. Not sure I can really ever delete the 12oz one, even if I do let it lie dormant eventually. But yeah, definitely switched my routine up. Find myself refreshing the All Activity page a lot instead of scrolling Instagram. Also has become the first thing I check in the morning instead of IG.1 point

I've been using IG less and less. It's the same stuff that pops up constantly. I use it more to follow some local sellers, a few 90s-00 graff accounts and the messenger feature since I got rid of FB and I cant always text. I can say I've been using Reddit a lot less since I've come back to The Ounce. There's a ton less users but I feel the connections are more meaningful and although it's a much smaller group, it's my kind of people.1 point

Good show with free drinks all night. Just loud was decent and had some positive vibes. The girl from st. Vincent needs to learn how to blend and mix. Not to hard considering traktor and serato do it for you basically. She did bump some old NIN which was dope. Japanese breakfast always kicks ass. Such a cool band with chill melodies and good lyrics. Definitely worth the wait, i need to get some 12oz media accredation so i don't have to wait in line lol. But all in all it was a free show with free drinks, nice people enjoying the music. I got home safe so i consider that a success. ✌1 point

There's a famous "last quote" from the former CEO of Netscape: "In the absence of data we have opinion. We'll just go with mine." (or something close to that effect.1 point

I think this is spot on. But, I think SM Fatigue has moved into a newer sort of "stale" stage. There's a line going around now that articulates it perfectly for me: Analytics killed creativity. This is also true in my profession.1 point

Raven, you mentioned that people don't put in the hours at a time and that struck a chord. I've been using my phone for social media during my down time, but its become a routine of *open app, scroll for a bit, like a pic, close app, open different app. repeat.* I am rarely discussing things (unless im bullshitting w other oontzers or IRL friends) With 12 oz, I like that it is graffiti based because it kinda strips away that facade of civility that some other places like to put on. Like reddit for example.1 point

The last one says more about Disney being shitbags as employers. Also in general, but plenty of other things say that. They already knew about this. His directing history has the "James Gunn's PG Porn" TV series with such exciting episodes as the "Squeal Happy Whores" and "A Very Peanus Christmas" Peanuts spoof which I'm going to go watch as immediately as possible. Assuming nobody at Disney was paying attention in 2008, in 2016 he had writing credits in Dolphinman Battles the Sex Lobsters : The old tweets were convenient for the asses trying to get him fired, but his bigger mistake was complaining about Trump if I pieced things together correctly. But yeah, go on and act all shocked, Disney. Or it might just be karmic payback for Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed ? Seriously though, at least this guy probably isn't going to be hurting for work or anything. DC Entertainment should hire him and make a green lantern movie that doesn't suck ass.1 point
