hey so I’m about 3 years into this with the same name, “GERM” for at-least 2 years, and I feel like a bit of a twat because I just did some research today and found that there’s already a graff artist with the name “GERMS” who is a bit of a legend in the Bay Area… I’m living in Germany and my style is so far from this artist, based around San Francisco, and this leads me to the question, do I need to change my tag, or is it not that deep on this occasion? (i feel I could’ve put this in any of the graffiti sub forums on here because the question is really aimed at anyone who’s been in the game for a while and knows what they’re talking about) (little new to the…

Has there ever been talk about a type of 12oz docuseries following history of certain writers/crews? Would be interesting to see something of high quality come out in that nature. Would also be a good traffic idea. Maybe have free access with a premium membership. Just came to mind. Curious on what you all think.

Usually stick with rusto 100% but considering using some euro to do a particularally detailed piece. I've heard some horror stories about fading from Ironlak and Montana after just a few years, so does anyone have any thoughts on what will hold up the best? Thanks.

As the title states, I'm seeking empty mop markers for a project. Retail prices in where I am are anywhere from $6-10 each, and I'm curious if I can get them cheaper online. Shipping to Australia. Are they called something else? Searching for 'empty mops/markers/pens' isn't really giving me any results. Please move if this is the wrong forum for this type of question.

using flickr sucks, browsing threads is a chore, books are nice but spendy, are there any definitive massive photo collections in zip/rar/7z format etc easily downloaded? any classic dope stuff, bricks freight etc. i can see and study graf the hard way but itd be so nice just to flip through a bunch of nice photos in a folder on my computer. especially im interested in mid90s-early00s, any city or freights doesnt matter as long as its is good.

Such as individuals stealing names, accurately or not? I was thinking that imitating perfectly a writer could lead to new possibilities : picture a local street artist seeing his name and style everywhere, going all city, ending up being taken for the actual impersonator. Some prankster could also stir beefs by dissing on someones behalf. I figured that if I thought of it someone probably already did?

Last year when covid started I finally decided to upload my Toronto Graffiti archive on Flickr, mostly because it's easy to edit very large groups of images and makes it very easy to search for work too then on a traditional website. I have images mostly from Toronto going back to 1995 (25 year anniversary last week) but also Montreal, London, Windsor, Detroit and NYC and benching too. Check it out and let me know what you think....there's lots of bombing hiding further back. I'm pretty sure you can set up a slideshow and just watch.

So I've wanted to get this going for a while and finally have time. I appreciate all the knowledge and conversation of the old thread, but with all the hiccups over the years, it is a wasteland of broken links, missing pictures, and conversations out of context and order. I plan on curating and pulling quotes of knowledge from the original as I find them going back through the 200 some pages, there is some real knowledge that needs to be maintained. I hope that 12 oz can again become a place of conversation about this outside of Instagram. Long term I'd love to see multiple threads talking about different facets of this hobby. IG will on occasion…

Winner of the Sydney Film Festival Documentary Audience Award, Martha: A Picture Story is Australian filmmaker Selina Miles’s illuminating look at a remarkable figure: intrepid American photojournalist Martha Cooper, known for her trailblazing documentation of street art and graffiti culture. With disarming curiosity and a razor-sharp eye, Cooper became a champion of the underground. As a lone female intern at National Geographic, staff photographer at the New York Post in the 1970s and in her freelance work, she captured renegade street art, Japanese tattoos, ancient Mayan culture and American gentrification. The New York Times dubbed her 1984 Subway Art book the…

Decent read over on GQ all about Kaws: https://www.gq.com/story/kaws-profile-brian-donnelly-short-circuited-art-world I'm still gutted I didn't take a Kaws poster alteration I saw in London all those years ago. I'd be rich if I sold it now!

Start this new topic to talk about graffiti magazines, collecting mags was very popular in the 90's, remember those good times before the internet came and kill the graffiti magazines! i remember the frst time i was involved with graff mags, a guy in my highschool give me a mag called "Intox"(french mag...i'm french) , it was a mag on street culture with lots of graffiti pics, in that mag there an ads about another french mag called "xplicit grafx" , i start subscribing to this mag, it was the really beginning of my collection! Some weeks later, i was visiting London and i buy a hip hop mag called "hip hop connection", at the end of this mag there were an ad section,…

So my homie has a sick paint recipe, it bleeds through buff paint, it's resistant to chemical buff, and leaves a nasty ghost. What type of paint/additives could i use to make paint bleed through buff paint, is it a combination of solvents, a shit ton of break fluid, or just something simple im overlooking.

Is it difficulty, colors, design...just what elements make a good piece for you? For me as a newbie I like bold colors, I like to be able to read it and, I like when characters or other elements are used and not just letters.. For instance I like Ichabod's work...

Story time. I dated a cops daughter, retired cop, I should say. We dated four times, the last being in high school. I was fairly certain I would marry her, but that was Catholic high school for you. We would visit Haight street, she stepped on my Ramones poster, and now I am fairly certain that she is a running coach. She taught me so much about the darker side of the city, much to my own graffiti career's detriment. Discuss at will.

I was roaming around L.A. On foot taking pictures and catching tags. I was headed to an area I've been before to see if there was anything new. A car parks and someone from the car says something to me,it was from a distance, so I approached to see what was going on. When I got there it was to writers from DSK crew, one of em was Avoe, I forget the other ones name though. It was nothing but good vibes. Music , jokes, and painting. They were working on a crew production that has been in progress for months. We talked a little and then I turned the corner down another alley. Staring down this alley there was about 6 different writers doing Pieces and character work. They wer…

I have never hit a train in my life, I would like some info based on my current situation. Okay, lets say all of the train yards in your area are territories for different crews, and the only one that is open is the "pre-buff yard". Now lets say for fear of getting your ass beat by yard cops, or crew members you avoid these yards. BUT... You happen to know (100000% for sure) the leader of a crew and where he works (he doesn't know that I know about his involvement in the crew) . Would it be a bad idea to ask him about painting there? Or is it one of those "sometimes its better to ask for forgiveness rather than ask for permission" type situations? Mind you, I really…

Down to the core are there only two types of writers in essence besides straight up taggers (handstyles)? What I mean is that is a writer either more dominate in "Throw Ups" or in Fill-Ins? Sure people can do both styles but once they get to doing murals, pieces, Wildstyle, BlockBusters, Burners, Skyscrapers, Hangovers, etc. their art style is reflected by their comfortability in Filling In or doing it like a Throwie. What I am saying is some prefer to do letters first and then fill them in (Fill-In) while others do the background and color first and then create the border/outline (Throw Ups). How do you feel about this? Should one focus on both or is Throwin' …

Keep The Faith was the subject of a landmark court case last February. For the first time in British law, the authorities attempted to prosecute the publisher of the magazine with ‘Encouraging the commission of criminal damage’. Fortunately, we got a Not Guilty verdict and the British Transport Police lost the case. We made it into The Observer: http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/nov/08/marcus-barnes-graffiti-art-can-be-a-positive-force-train-tagging And Vice magazine: https://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/marcus-barnes-keep-the-faith-interview Now, the magazine is being re-released in a special package containing a hard copy of issue 2, issue 1 i…
