So I've been talking to the mods as well as a handful of members I talk to in real life about the need and plan to draft rules for the community, as well as for specific sections. Likewise, we've also been discussing moderating protocols as a part of that. Anyhow, the community has seen steady growth, which is great. It ebbs and flows, but has been incrementally trending up since we relaunched it about two years ago or so. There's been a few spikes or exponential growth and there's a lot I'm trying to do outside the forum to build up budget to be able to take bigger steps with both the 12ozProphet brand and the forum. That being said, we're also li…

i would like to discuss and take a good look at ralph nader and this incredible groundswell of opposition to his running. i mean, the level of vitriolic opposition to such a man is quite astounding. i would like for someone(poop?) to lay out the full argument for why a vote for nader is a vote for the enemy. take it back to 2000 if needed. just on a surfacey type of deal, i have been mulling it over and it occured to me that on at least one plane of thinking, this probably isn't a great argument for american "democracy".

_____________________SOLDIER BLASTS COP DEAD IN LA

Cop, Gunman Dead CERES — It started as a seemingly simple and somewhat routine call Sunday night: a man was acting strangely at a liquor store. Moments later, a burst of gunfire echoed through the normally quiet neighborhood. One Ceres police officer lay dying, another was critically wounded, and law enforcement was storming the scene by land and air. Helicopters hovered above as police ordered people to go inside, lock their doors and turn off the lights. Three hours later, another gun battle erupted, this one ending in the death of a 19-year-old Marine from Modesto, suspected of shooting the two officers. Altogether, police and neighbors said Mon…

OK. so i dont ever come in crossfire, so its pretty lame to expect others to flock to my thread. But this is some shit that ive really been getting interested in in the past year. That being said i make no claims to having the firmest grasp on the subject, it does afterall contain quite a fair amount of abstract shit. Lots of things that happen on the micro level of physics do not compute with how we see things on the macro level day to day. So for right now my main focus has been on the gap between quantum mechanics and the effect human consciousness has on it. The science of the observer. I must admit i originally got into this after seeing the movie/"dockumentary"…

Kanye West's Torrent of Criticism, Live on NBC By Lisa de Moraes Saturday, September 3, 2005; Page C01 The rapper was among the celebs and singers participating in the one-hour special, produced by NBC News and run on the NBC broadcast network, as well as MSNBC and CNBC, because, hey, the numbers couldn't be any worse than usual on a Friday night and hopefully they'd raise a chunk of change for a good cause, the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Among the performers, Faith Hill sang "There Will Come a Time," which included the lyrics, "The darkness will be gone, the weak shall be strong. Hold on to your faith." Aaron Neville performed Randy Newm…

http://www.ibnlive.com/news/china-cloaking-soldiers-as-monks-to-incite-riots/62231-3.html?xml New Delhi: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Saturday alleged that Chinese soldiers disguised as monks were instigating riots in his homeland. Dalai Lama joined religious leaders of several faiths at the memorial of Mahatama Gandhi, Rajghat, in New Delhi, to pray for those killed in the unrest in Tibet since March 10. The exiled Tibetan leader told reporters later that he had come to New Delhi to take a course on Buddhist teaching and meditation, but his mind had been much distracted after the Lhasa uprising. "Since March 10 (when riots begin in Lhasa), I am havi…

its an opinion piece, and because there is a lack of lexicon to describe such a movie, because no creative critics, and i dont mean fat ass ebert have coined a new school of thought, nor have linguists or ethicists called for a paradign shift in terminolgy. so we are forced to ram this circular word, documentary into this square hole, 'Fahrenheit 9/11'. im afraid for the state of news, and vociferous maddening commentary and opinion being cloaked in the supposed nuetrality of a documentary... blah...i used to love mike moore, but i can see me penning my first book, "how michael moore made me republican"....i still love the guy, he is just irking me these da…

"Outfoxed" examines how media empires, led by Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, have been running a "race to the bottom" in television news. This film provides an in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public's right to know. The film explores Murdoch's burgeoning kingdom and the impact on society when a broad swath of media is controlled by one person. Media experts, including Jeff Cohen (FAIR) Bob McChesney (Free Press), Chellie Pingree (Common Cause), Jeff Chester (Center for Digital Democracy) and David Brock (Media Matters) provide context and guidance for the story of Fox News and its effect on society. …

US National ID Card Now A Certainty From Barry Steinhardt 5-6-5 Congressional passage of the "Real ID" legislation is now all but a done deal, House and Senate conferees having agreed to inclusion of language in an appropriations bill that is all but certain to pass. The name "Real ID" is, if anything, too modest. Despite deep public opposition over the years to a national identity card, and Congress's unwillingness to even consider the idea directly, our security agencies have now gotten what they want as proponents have succeeded in pushing through Congress a National ID-in-disguise. The "Real ID" Act Is Indeed A Real (National) ID. Although…

Violent Drawings Lead to Felony Charges Wed Jan 26,11:26 AM ET U.S. National - AP OCALA, Fla. - Two boys were arrested for making pencil-and-crayon stick figure drawings depicting a 10-year-old classmate being stabbed and hung, police said. The children, charged with a felony, were taken from school in handcuffs. The 9- and 10-year-old boys were arrested Monday and charged with making a written threat to kill or harm another person. They were also suspended from school. One drawing showed the two boys standing on either side of the other boy and "holding knives pointed through" his body, according to a police report. The figures were identifie…

Strong evidence for a massive galaxy totally devoid of stars has been found in the Virgo cluster, about 50 million light years away from Earth. If the existence of this "dark galaxy" is confirmed, it will vindicate the favoured theory of how galaxies form - and will present fresh puzzles to solve. The new galaxy, which consists of a gigantic cloud of hydrogen gas and exotic dark matter, contains enough material to give birth to tens of millions of stars. Yet something is preventing this from happening. Such dark galaxies have been predicted, and could outnumber normal galaxies by as much as a hundred to one, but this is the first time anyone has confidently claimed t…

Principal Bans 'Freak Dancing' Mon Jan 10, 7:49 AM ET LEMOORE, Calif. - Fed up with students' racy moves, a principal at a California high school has taken the unusual step of canceling the rest of this year's school dances. Principal Jim Bennett of Lemoore Union High School said he warned students at a winter formal dance last month to either quit dirty dancing or face the possibility of not dancing at all. But he said the students continued "freak dancing," a form of sexually suggestive dancing that involves grinding the hips and pelvic area. The ban on …

not cartoon network this time. Boston Police Blow Up Suspicious Looking Man Boston, MA – There were more tense moments today after Boston Police were forced to blow up a suspicious looking man near a lamp post. An alert city worker called in the man after noticing that he had been leaning against the lamp post for more than ten minutes. Officer Charlie O'Hara of the bomb squad said, "We got a report of a man loitering in a high-traffic area with a bulky coat and a backpack. We cleared the area, snuck up behind him, attached the explosives and detonated him." Police later learned the man, Evan Johnson, was waiting for his girlfriend, Cindy Col…

Clack-Clack Pope Calls Gay Marriage Part of 'Ideology of Evil' Tuesday, February 22, 2005 3:12 p.m. ET By Philip Pullella ROME (Reuters) - Homosexual marriages are part of "a new ideology of evil" that is insidiously threatening society, Pope John Paul says in a new book published Tuesday. In "Memory and Identity," the Pope also calls abortion a "legal extermination" comparable to attempts to wipe out Jews and other groups in the 20th century. He also reveals that he is convinced the Turkish gunman who shot him in 1981 did not act alone and suggests that the former Communist Bloc may have been behind the plot to kill him. The 84-year-old Po…

Honeycomb Carbon Crystals Possibly Detected in Space NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has spotted the signature of flat carbon flakes, called graphene, in space. If confirmed, this would be the first-ever cosmic detection of the material -- which is arranged like chicken wire in flat sheets that are one atom thick. Graphene was first synthesized in a lab in 2004, and subsequent research on its unique properties garnered the Nobel Prize in 2010. It's as strong as it is thin, and conducts electricity as well as copper. Some think it's the "material of the future," with applications in computers, screens on electrical devices, solar panels and more. Graphene in …

This Tuesday, the Senate will vote on Republican Leader Bill Frist's "nuclear option" to break the rules of the Senate and give the Republican Party absolute control over appointing federal judges. For 200 years the minority's right to filibuster has kept our courts fair, by making sure that federal judges needed to get at least some support from both sides of the aisle before they were given life time appointments. If Frist eliminates the filibuster, his next step would be to force far right partisan judges onto the powerful U.S. Courts of Appeals. The real targets, however, are the four seats on the Supreme Court likely to become vacant in th…

Yeah, another "terror plot" was thwarted. Conveniently timed to take the US and UK's Middle East fuck-ups in Lebanon and Iraq off the public's mind. Notice how there are no actual details about the plan--other than they were going to use things to blow it up--and there are no names. There's no information at all other than there was a "terror plot" to blow up an airplane and the UK stopped it. Just like the two "terror plots" that were stopped in the US a few months ago that turned out to be totally bogus. ------------------- http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/08/10/uk.terror/index.html LONDON (CNN) -- Major delays are expected at all UK airpo…

A recent mathematical analysis says that life as we know it is written into the laws of reality. DNA is built from a set of twenty amino acids - the first ten of those can create simple prebiotic life, and now it seems that those ten are thermodynamically destined to occur wherever they can.For those unfamiliar with thermodynamics, it's the Big Brother of all energy equations and science itself. You can apply quantum mechanics at certain scales, and Newtonian mechanics work at the right speeds, but if Thermodynamics says something then everyone listens. An energy analysis by Professors Pudritz and Higgs of McMaster University shows that the first ten amino acids are li…

"The Purpose of Racism" by Immortal Technique I begin this new installment today by apologizing in advance for the incomplete nature of the subject matter being presented. I seek only to give brief examples and not go too in depth into slavery or racism but more so to discuss why we who were once the victims of this and other American's still hold onto the idea of Race. I correlate this stubborn inability to let go with the very way in which slavery and racism became a part of this nation. Explaining the difference between the institution's past, present and future will hopefully help us to understand how to fight it and overcome it, as it remains alive not j…

Alright, this is going to be a bit of a debate. My guess is there aren't that many graffers that are pro-Bush, but yeah. Did you know that the casualty list runs these numbers: WTC: 2997 PEOPLE dead (Tourists, people from other companies in other areas. I.E. Japanese execs and so on.) This was supposidly an attack to America. This was a test to the will of one of the strongest nations, the dominant super power. However: In the war there have been 3414 AMERICAN soldiers dead. Not just allies, but AMERICAN. Casualties all rolled up? Probably around 10,000 in the War on Terror. Fucked up? I think so. My personal opinion: Junior is just finishin…
