I know its tough for some young artists to get a piece of art in a gallery period. But does every show have to involve the same 20 artists we have all seen a million times. Is it worth it to sit around for years till you get a solo exhibit? I would hope galleries would seem to see that individuals can create a larger impact within a space. If i want to see a collection of art i can go to a musuem.

Ive been trying for a very long time to make an image of a SWAT copper in black and white. Im trying to make it borderline black and white ink work / stencil look. Im have a hard ass time, mainly because I cant get any good reference shots of either swat coppers, or military pics. I also struggle with making the drawing all black and white, as SWAT cops in general are all dark in color, but making the whole image just black loses its pretty-ness. ANYWAY Any comic heads or stencil making heads, I need help. If theres a comic guy whos done a lot of B/W images of swat/police/military type things, hook me up. If you stencil guys know of the same, lemme know, I…

Thought I'd ask here.... I want to add a section of text to fit inside a shape. ie so you can read it fully left to right. I don't want to cut out a section of text like this, Previously I've done this manually by inserting spaces, tabs, enter, etc. and getting the text to fit. But this is time consuming, and what I'm trying to do is a bit complicated. Is there a way it can be done automatically? In Photoshop, etc.

okay I think something like this could get some good ideas flowing. I've gone to several local art shows of people I knew. Seen the sort of folks who kick it at these 'events'. Now, Im not at all like any of the people in this scene. I dont dress like them, I dont devote that much time to 'art', I didnt go to art school, and the vast majority of my frnds are NOT artists in the slightest. However, I still like and wouldnt mind getting more involved with such a scene. Meet people, build some kind of network within the art scene and so forth. Perhaps have a few of my works up at some kind of show or something (preferably in a way that i DONT have to pay) I do n…

Im starting to bring out a few t shirts, (can be seen on http://www.fucknfilthy.com) will be some really big names doing them along with myself and some other good local illustrators, i have an image on a t shirt down the bottom & i need written above it It was all a dream if people could show me examples of fonts they have done here i will then pick a winner & send them on the graphic so they can do there font above it . The t shirt will then go to print for a limited run of 50. The person with the best typography skills who i pick to do the font on the t shirt will get 50€ and a free shirt. Looking forward to seeing everyones entries.

Two great artists, one great thread: (Stumbled across both tonight, didn't want to make two threads...) Micro Sculptor: Willard Wigan is a micro-sculptor. He currently has an exhibition called Art in the Eye of a Needle on display at the Parish Gallery in Georgetown through January 23. Art that fits inside the head of a needle? Yup. Wigan's process is almost scientific in accuracy. Utilizing microscopes, bright lights, and pinpointed tools, he is able to fashion sculptures that literally fit inside a needle head. He started making micro-sculptures when he was a child. "I started to believe ants needed a place to live," he said. …

Does anyone know of a clear coat type of paint/spray/sealer that would not affect spray paint. I've painted a drum set for a friend and he said he'd like it to be clear coated. I know a lot of sprays will eat into the spray paint, and that some varnishes and sealers will do the same. anyone have any experience in clear coating painted wood/plastic?

To mark the 400th anniversary of Caravaggio's death, there is currently an exhibit in Roma with 30-something authenticated works by the OG bad motherfucker himself. Museums from Texas, Dublin, Rome, Berlin, NYC, and all over have worked together to place an enormous amount of his work in one location. Basket of fruit, boy with basket of fruit, sleeping cupid, several of his paintings of john the baptist, the betrayal of christ, judith beheading holofernes, and many more are all there in one museum....fucking awesome! I just left the exhibit, and Im still pickin my jaw up off the ground. If youve got money to burn, or know somebody with air miles you c…

Link to see the letters: http://microsite.smithsonianmag.com/content/jackson-pollock/pollock.html Link to article: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/Decoding-Jackson-Pollock.html It was my wife, Marianne Berardi, who first saw the letters. We were looking at a reproduction of Jackson Pollock's breakthrough work, Mural, an 8-by 20-foot canvas bursting with physical energy that, in 1943, was unlike anything seen before. The critic Clement Greenberg, Pollock's principal champion, said he took one look at the painting and realized that "Jackson was the greatest painter this country has produced." A Museum of Modern Art curator, the late Kir…

Ive been to the odd show, and Ive seen people's work online (famous people, writers, not so famous people, etc) The one thing that always strikes me is how expensive EVERYONE`s work is! I think I saw a Reyes painting (not super dope I might add) going for like 1300$! The fuck? How does that work exactly? How do some of you guys decide how much your pieces are worth? Or is it more so that these artists just love their work so much that they wish no one would buy it? Or do art lovers hate buying cheap work? I don't understand at all. Im finnin to sell shit at a low price and make millions by lowballing everyone Discuss...

It seems lately that I've noticed a lot of kids jumping on and doing illustrations as 'art'. Ive come across a handful of random artists whose work, though cool, looks almost identical. Is this whats hot these days? Super clean ironic illustrations. Oddly proportionate tim burton character rip offs in super emo/moody scenes. Forreals? Is this a trend or has it always been like that? What else is out there... I am not seeing a lot out there that really GRABS MY ATTENTION with power. the fuck? At least not around my parts... thoughts?

So with my frustration of the lack of productivity in my life I was supremely bummed with every medium I dealt with yesterday and I thought to myself...when was the last time I was happy even if it didnt turn out the way I wanted it? Back when I was involved with clay THAT WAS WHEN!! So im kinda jazzed up for it all. I recently moved and have a lot of property at my disposal so Im gonna start doing ceramics again by means of Pit Firing. Pit Firing is a no glaze fire where the elements in the fire "paint" your work. It really can create some beautiful stuff. Heres some examples of other work.... (not mine) Ill be posting some pics soon of how a…

"There's still liquid in the glass Sir, I just wouldn't drink it." Looking at the graph of the president's approval ratings, I realized that I could recreate it on a wall of the gallery. I chose glass jars as they are transparent and allowed me to use the inside as well as the jar itself. The jars are filled up with water relative to his approval rating at that time as well. The clear water represents clear thinking on the part of the American public. The jar representing 9-11 is filled with pure black ink, representing the fear, anger, sadness, depression, any and all emotions felt by the world that day. As the jars go on, one less drop is …

I'm a cautious poster and I've never started a thread. I was wondering if you as the Oontz would be able to throw some ideas and questions out here in the Untitled thread. I've been building machines, and robots lately. I have a few projects under my belt and a few projects underway. I just thought it would be nice to brainstorm w/a few like minded heads. I mean, I'm on some of the techy forums but I would like to see what my people think. Hold up, lemme 'splain a lil'. So I'm finishing a coffee table that I've been working on in the next couple of weeks. I'm cobbling together a diy lcd projector and some wii whiteboard technology but I'm trying to d…

Here is a quick Thread i wanted to Make for anyone in Untitled wanted to put your up for critique or just to post. Mixed media, Oils Acrylics, Watercolors, portraits, realism, cartoons what not. You get the picture. Didnt want to say canvas thread or artwork thread in order to keep the garbage to a minimum. Studies are fine just make sure you accept the criticism well and gauge your self on level of work being represented. Here are some of my friends works to start it off. Dont worry they donot have to be this level to post this is just the first post.

Great success!! I have been accepted into 2 group shows already. Would've been 3 but the plan didnt quite work out. Ive been keeping up on many current local shows and on the people who put them on, so things have been going pretty good. I will make another thread with photos and shit. Anyways, I plan on getting into as many as I can this year, and also plan on making lots of art in my spare time. This would not have been possible without the internet and some artsy friends with the same goal. Hoorah!
