Well with the popularity of the photography thread, I've noticed that a lot of people are getting interested in buying a DSLR. (If you don't know what a DSLR is, or are unsure of the advantages of it, I suggest you check out http://www.kenrockwell.com > how to> The two classes of digital cameras. direct link if you don't want to check out the rest of his site. What I'm trying to say is, the camera you use doesn't really matter. If you have a magic lens that fits every camera in the world, the pictures you take from Nikon's flagship pro-dslr the D2X will be no different than a whatever Konica Minolta budget dslr. Megapixels don't matter unless you plan on maki…

Richard Diebenkorn (1922–1992) is considered one of the premier American painters of the 20th century. Internationally renowned, Diebenkorn was recognized in the late 1940s as an important abstract expressionist painter and later became the leading figure of the Bay Area Figurative Movement in the 1950s. Throughout his impressive career, Diebenkorn maintained a strong aesthetic and intellectual foundation based on explorations of color, form and light for which he is so well-known. By the late 1960s, Diebenkorn moved from the Bay Area to Southern California where for the next twenty years, the beachside community in which Diebenkorn lived, Ocean Park in Venice, CA, …

The Cure -Bio Out of all the bands that emerged in the immediate aftermath of punk rock in the late '70s, the Cure was one of the most enduring and popular. Led through numerous incarnations by guitarist/vocalist Robert Smith (born April 21, 1959), the band became notorious for their slow, gloomy dirges and Smith's ghoulish appearance. As one of the bands that laid the seeds for goth rock, the group created towering layers of guitars and synthesizers, but by the time goth caught on in the mid-'8…

OK then. What I mean by 'Concpt writers' are those who deal with a deeper theme, one that unites all their pieces, tag names etc. What comes first, eye candy or brain food ( ;) )? Are these artists highbrow or lowbrow, or just plkain fucking pretentious? Be clear I do not mean so called'Graffiti' writers who use art school training and one watch of wildstyle to appropriate an entire culture and do pieces on canvas to display in galleries (see McKenzie Galleries in St andrews for some truly shocking examples, not that any of you will live anywhere near sta's) I do in fact mean thoses who use grafitti as an expressive tool to convey serious points of view Tell m…

I'm currently living in China and don't have too much opportunity to paint. In fact, it's over here that I have developed an interest in this art. Paint here is crap and so I am left with little else than colored pencils. Writing letters is a good pass-time, as is drawing, so I decided to combine the two. I don't imagine it's anything new, but then again I have yet to see it done the way I do. If you have an interesting way of doing graffiti or stencils post them here. Here is a tutorial on my way: First, I start with my pencil design. Nothing special. [attachmentid=16145] Second, I color my design. You know the drill. [attachmentid=16146] …

Being bored at work one day I decided to start looking up some origami diagrams and learn a thing or two. I find that it relaxes me and clears my mind. Now I'm totally hooked because shit is addicting, and anytime there is paper lying around..... Just learned a few things so far: throwing stars, fox, pig, crane, leaping frog, and remeber those paper things in elementary school that you put your hand in and your friend picks a number, then a color and they get a "fortune." So anyone else on this tip?

...i have been acused in the past, both on this forum and in real life, of hating art due to my rather critical view of a lot of things...so i thought i would highlight some artists that i really enjoy seeing...the first is the contemporary italian, Maurizo Cattelan...he has been met with both critical acclaim and dismissal... "him" "la nona ora" "bidibidobidiboo" "untitled" ...link to controversy of this piece... "Frank and Jamie" maurizio cattelan was born in padua in 1960. cattelan did not attend art school but taught himself. he worked as a cook, gardener, nurse and mortuary atten…
