Graffiti Arrest in Merced County

June 10, 2005 — A big arrest for Merced police that could mean a lot less tagging around the state.

Officers say the arrest will significantly decrease the amount of graffiti seen across the Valley. They call ****** ***** a "graffiti king pin."

Police found several items inside a North Valley home that they say ****** ****** used to tag the Valley with graffiti.

"This guy is a professional, he is a pro," says Joe Wren, from the Merced Police Department. "For us to catch him is huge. He is what inspires the younger generation of graffiti vandals."

While serving a search warrant on ******'s home, Wren says officers discovered tons of evidence.

"Cans of spray paint, hundreds of graffiti related magazines, thousands of developed and undeveloped pictures of his acts of graffiti vandalism."

Police then typed his tag name, "indoor", into a computer database that keeps a log of graffiti found in and around Merced.

"We came up with 37 matches with that tag name," says Wren.

Police say Petty left his mark further than the Valley — Fresno, Merced, Stockton, Modesto, Seattle, Washington and an undisclosed location in Canada.

With one of his signatures, "mois," which means making officers insane, *****'s message was clear.

Officers also discovered marijuana plants inside Petty's home.

***** was arrested on 37 counts of felony vandalism and released on bail from the Merced County jail.

Police say his graffiti caused tens of thousands of dollars in property damage.

sounds like they are gonna hang him upside down by the testicles. Bad news

I looked for more articles... apparently they weren't raiding him for graffiti... he had over 120 marijuana plants growing... and he lived in a multiple story apartment building. Keeping a visible marijuana garden in your backyard is bad news. Especially when you have a shitload of incriminating graffiti related evidence in your house. And he admitted to it, and said he was working for an underground graffiti DVD company... Police say "more arrests are to follow". If he snitches it sounds like a lot of people are gonna be unhappy :/

They had to make the graffiti the focus point of the media coverage, because he would probably be applauded by most of the locals for having that many weed plants. They have to do something to make the general public pissed off at every criminal, or they're not a criminal.
