I was considering quitting my job, and going freelance. do any of you do full time freelance? i have major responsibilities at home, and would like to spend more time there. plus, after 6 years i hate my job now, and i never really liked working for the man. i was also considering getting another job, but again, im tired of working hard to put money into someone elses pockets, only to get a pinch of the pie. Right after the summer upon arriving in PR jobs fell out of the sky, I filled myself up to the brim, to the point I almost bit more than i could chew. It wa awesome... I had to work a lot, but the freedom is unparalleled. Right now it's a dip, I'm finishing up most of the projects I had and have to get on the ball to find more stuff for this summer. I'll probably look for a permanent position after the summer, but for now I would like to have this gig going steady... it's just too unpredictable. Guest WebsterUno Posted May 19, 2004 Share Posted May 19, 2004 *believe* nah, no envelope stuffing... or phone sex operating..haha. im a graphic designer/artist. ive done a lot of things, and i dont see why i cant do it from home. ive done billboards, costumes, newspaper ads, magazine ads, graphics for a jetliner, casino chips, and currently, im creating a balloon that is to be put up in a raceway. with the technology available today, (phones, fax machines, dsl, and my mac at home) i feel confident i can do what i do from home. i have my own office already. i do things for people at home, and have been getting a few offers, but my full time job is the thing thats is getting in the way of me taking on those jobs. its hard to work full time, then come home and work more, when there are things to do at home. if i worked from home, it would all get taken care of. im also about to finish up with a few t-shirt designs, and im hoping those will give me a boost. what do you do g-sushi? gfreshsushi Posted May 19, 2004 Share Posted May 19, 2004 if paisas means day labor, then occasionally, but i usually just pay my broke ass friends to help me do some hauling and dump runs. the guys that hang out in my neighborhood looking to get work are totally awesome, because they all just go to the bar next door to me at the end of the day, so i can give them a ride to the bar and then they don't drive anywhere while totally loaded. it's like a good deed, but i'm getting paid for it. i work by myself 95% of the time. i do handyman and fix-it shit, not full-scale remodeling. i ain't got no contractor's license. I'm just stickin with local business currently, but will very soon expand via internet. its me and my roommate doing it, so the workload can be increased. On top of that, we don't have other jobs, go to school, and do all this shit at home, still while paying the bills. You just gotta have faith in yourself and your competency to do what needs to be done and get the business moving. We are also moving soon and going to attempt to open up a music production studio on top of the graphics design. But that won't happen for about a year or so. i'll shut up now.
