Turning to the fourm to help me decide where I should go when I'm away from the fourm. let me kick some back story... So My Mom's been in the Travel Biz for years now, but she's finished with it. So she's proposing to take me on one last hurah to anywhere I can suggest. This isn't a free trip, as I'll be paying some of the expenses, but the hook ups will certainly help with the airfare and hotel. so here's what I've been rolling around in my head [*] able to bring my bike along for touring? [*]a place where they speak French that isn't France or Quebec. [*]Possibly south of the Equator. [*]something that isn't very "tourist" [/list=1] so what do you guys suggest ? serpent of the light Posted October 8, 2002 Share Posted October 8, 2002 boulder, colorado. bikes galore. everybody in this town rides. tons of french people here. just hang out in the health food stores and you will meet them. boulder's a college town, somewhat touristy in the summer, but fall/winter/spring its not. the equator bit you're fucked on though. No doubt Norway and Sweden would be very nice too. At the moment I'm leaning towards South America. That would scratch another continent of my list. so far... Brazil it is! ;) the tough part of all this is that I need to pick a place and a style of trip that my Globe-trotting mother hasn't already done. She climbed to Machu Picchu back in the 80's, so Peru is out. She biked in Chilie, so that's out (but I didn't ever really want to go there.) I've been to Egypt in Africa. It's not really the feel of Africa so it doesn't count against going back. My Mom's done Egypt and Morroco. wait.... Mom's always wanted to climb Kilimonjaro in Kenya. Maybe I'll suggest it. We've always done hiking and treking together, so that sounds perfect. In fact we climbed Mt.Kinabalu in Malaysia. It's the highest peak in South East Asia. no Tailand yet....
